My hair has a lot of flyaway hairs and is dry. I went to a salon to ask for help with this and was told that I use too much conditioner and that all that protein is bad for my hair. I wash every other day and I use conditioner each time. I also do a deep condtion about every week and a half. I also use leave-in conditioner. She told me to wash my hair as normal with Paul Mitchell Moisturizing shampoo but only conditioner every other time, which would be about every 4 days. She said no leave in conditioners or heat protecters either as they normally contain alcholo that will cause more dryness. Any thoughts on this? Should I take this advice? I blowdry every time I wash, but very rarely use a flat-iron or curling iron anymore.

Maybe the condtioner you're using is weighing down your hair, which is why she said you're using too much or if the things you're using have protein in them, and you over-use, you might overdose on them, so to speak, making your hair irrepairably brittle. I think the heat damage from the heat styling would damage your hair worse then a little alcohol from heat protectant. Maybe take the advice, try out what she said for a couple weeks and see if your hair improves or no.
doubt truth to be a liar.

I agree with that.  Conditioners can build up and weigh down your hair, and over time cause build up and damage.  You can remove this buildup though by using a clarifying shampoo (any shampoo with clarifying written on the front should do).  You are using a lot of conditioning items, you probably could cut back, but if you didn't, I would clarify my hair at least once a month to remove the buildup.  Clarifying is drying, so you would condition twice after doing it.  Don't use your clarifying shampoo any more frequently than that, it is too drying for regular use.

I know, it sounds like, why bother then if I just need to put the conditioner back on?  Because clarifying will remove the build up that gets brittle and can break off taking your hair with it.  If you remove the old brittle build up and put on fresh coats of conditioner, your hair will be better off.

I warn you, since you are using a lot of product, clarifying may make dryness and splits obvious that you couldn't see before.  You may decide you need a trim.  Realize though that the clarifying shampoo didn't cause it, it was already there just hidden under the silicone coat.

Personally, I'd condition every time I washed, and you could probably keep the leave in if it makes your hair feel better.  If you wanted, you could replace the leave in with something else, like jojoba or coconut oil (which doesn't build up).  You only use a little of that, it shouldn't make your hair feel greasy, if it does, you used too much.  A drop will do if your hair is chin length, only a little more if its longer.  Since you don't heat style, you don't need heat protectant, and you should only blow dry on the cool setting, as heat is damaging and not necessary for blow drying.
