Aidyl's post reminded me to tell you guys how I successfully dumped the brass...I used perm. med ash brown. Next time I want highlights I think I will suck it up and get them done professionally. My hair is long and in great condition (esp for color-treated) so I don't want to mess with that.

Great tip, the only thing with using permanent colours is if in future you are looking for hi lights, the permanent colour is sometimes harder to lift out the hair, therefor taking a few attempts to give blonde hi lights.
I always advise clients of this for future treatments.

Very tricky, to do. Depending what you are trying to achieve. If its back to blonde then the only way to do this is by bleaching again, with 30 vol developer and bleach, and then tone. The only problem is they may have a pink tone. to all over colour you need to fill the hi lights and colour over.
