whats up with my hair?

hi. i'm a male and i've let my hair grow out a little. i generally just part it around the middle of my scalp(i have a widow's peak) and comb it to each side. sometimes i use a gel to keep it in place. it looks ok, except on the left side, the hair is like... curled weird and it rarely falls in a way that looks good. the right side generally looks ok though. here are some pics:
in this one, you can see how the left side(my left side) looks kinda funny.

it seems to be caused by how the hair in that area is shaped, which can be seen i this image. it kind of curves like an s... what's up with that? none of my other hair is like that.


if anybody knows what is causing this or could suggest a way to fix it, i'd really appreciate it.
