QuoteReplyTopic: Microcylinder Extensions Posted: January 04 2009 at 6:05am
Hey there. My sister-in-law recently had some micro-cylinder extensions put in and is loving them. I am interested in getting them myself, but I was hoping to find some information from more experiences users.
What is the best kind of hair to use for this type of install? I have a friend who will do it if I purchase the hair (to help me save money), but I am hesitant to just purchase it from Sally without some feedback. I've seen the thread regarding the Satin Strands and the problems relating to them, but are there other brands out there that would be acceptable to use?
I don't like the Sally's brand hair at all. It mats up within a few weeks of wearing.
I do extensions professionally in a salon and I have used many different brands over the years. For micro rings, I really like the 909 Flash Point I-tip from www.hairpiece.com. They also sell the micro rings, they call them Protubes, and you'll want the medium size in order to fit the Flashpoint tube perfectly. (if your micro ring is too big for the tip, you will get slippage).
Thanks for your really helpful info. I hadn't seen that site, but it looks like that is the type I am looking for. DO you happen to know how much it runs? You have to be a member to see pricing, and you have to have a license to be a member. As I am unlicensed and just researching, I can't access that.

I will be honest I use Satin strands at the moment only because the state i live in does not have many options to just buy the hair in a salon or store. I like to have hands on first. Good thing I am only here temp. Anyways, I dont have a problem with matting like others have had and i have used about 3 different sets of hair in the last year or so. I do use a syrum and a leave in conditioner to help but i will say that i use the blond Malibu and they do seem to dry out after about 2-3 months but like any hair it can tangle if you dont take care of it when you go to bed or wrestle around etc. Now Las vegas is the place to get hair extensions I dont order because you usually have to have a license wich i dont but in store you can USUALLY work something out what color of hair would you be using because i wonder if there is a difference between the colors with matting/tangling that others have complained about. And last but not least that thread with the satin strands is like 3 years old maybe they have updated the hair and thats why i dont have any problems. Good luck wich ever way you decide to go chick

I would be going to a 1b, or off-black color. My hair is naturally this color with very red undertones, so I actually really liked the Satin Strands color I saw (I think it was called Casablanca?). It looked like a perfect blend for me.
I am not concerned about having to purchase using a license. If that comes up, the friend who is installing them for me will use her license to purchase. I'll just give her my credit card to make the purchase.
I was thinking about doing the Satin Strands just as test before I invest in expensive extensions. I'd like ot practice having them in without having wasted a ton of money.

Well if you want to test them before spending a lot of money satin strands isnt bad. You can also look on ebaY SOMETIMES you can find a good deal of good quality hair. but that is a risk and can get expensive. considering you will need about 200 + strands depending on the fullness and thickness you desire. Like I said I am a malibu blond and right now until i get back to my state i am using satin strands and i dont have any problems with them except after a long while they start to dry out but i also blowdry mine and use a straight iron or curler when they say not to but i dont have 5 hrs in the morning to wait for my hair to dry or curl naturally lol. just make sure you put a syrum or a leave in conditioner on the ends. Oh and dont use shampoo like pantine pro v, I use a biologe and a redken switch every couple of days and i love it. Good luck chick if you get them let us know how it works out and show us some pic. http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=63423 there are some pic of my extensions that are malibu satin strands so you have an idea
