QuoteReplyTopic: I installed Tembond Hair Extensions-FINALLY! Posted: March 10 2009 at 10:53am
So I tried finding a way to install my own extensions because after
looking into what it cost to have a professional do it.
As you can see from some of my old posts my story shows I tried Seamless taped extensions where the
hair comes on a weft but sewed into a thin synthetic clear film and it
APPEARS that it is growing out of my head. A few on here have done it. The concept sounded good.
But you can't get any kind of long wear out of that unless you glue it
and add tape to the wefts along with the glue. Well I ordered hair from
a place that claimed to have REMY hair, hair that has all the cuticles
going in one direction so that it is smooth and free of tangles. Well
anyone can say that now days and when you order on the internet, you
are screwed because they don't take hair back.
So after this hair dried up and tangled every 5 minutes after
brushing i had to remove them. I was the one who posted the HELP! thread asking how to get these out.
Skins came off easily but the glue I used some Liquid Gold disolver and then just could not bring myself to put acetone on my hair like some suggested. Many have said that Citrus C-22 would work to get the left over glue off but you can only get that on the internet and Icould not wait to have it shipped nor would I pay $30 for a $3 bottle to overnight it. I neded up using Goo-Gone which seemed like the same concept. Still harsh and scary. It worked fine but when I removed the glue, my hair came out in pieces
as well! It was awful.
The sink was full of hair and glue bits.
See here what i mean:
While on Hair Boutique and looking for help with my taped extensions
someone suggested Manemaxx hair extensions with Tembond. She said she
had her hair in for 3 months and going strong. they have awesome hair
that does not tangle and is silky smooth.
So I went to the website and watched their forum boards trying to get as
much info as possible. I also wrote the company and asked a million
questions and Tiffany was more than helpful. I swear I must have sent
20 emails and got responses before I purhcased anything from them.
Oh my god I love these extensions! I put them in on Sunday and with
some help from my teenager( Yes even she could do it) it is quite easy. I had also got some practice because I installed my daughter's a few days before that. She had some of the same hair from the same place I got my seamless. I bought some for her for Christmas when I purchased my own. She was away at school and just never had the time to put them in. She knew all the problems I had with this hair. It was not Remy and it was all different lengths and dry and DULL. It did not look that bad when I first installed it but after a week or two, it became completely unmanagable. But she moved back and was anxious to get some hair in. So whatever if she grows tired of it, we'll get her more hair and change it out.
BTW I got my hair at Indianhairexport.com BEWARE do not buy from them. Low quality hair and they screwed up the color I ordered. When I complained i they would only refund me $28 to fix it. Are you kidding? I ahd to pay over $100 just to correct the color on that package. then they could not color the hair that was on the skin part so that part was a totally lighter color and you could SEE the top taped part of the extension through my hair.
Anyhoo. Back to my install: I did not have her do all of it so that I could see myself how doable
it was for me. I did the sides first (with BRIGHT lighting)so that I
could SEE how to section and make sure there were no stray hairs
getting in (although they come right out if you do let some slip in) so
by the time I got to the back I already had a feel for the section size
and where to place the bond. It took several hours (like 6) but I took
breaks and did get her help when I did the far back. But many many
women do these all the time and it IS a DIY type of system. It would
not sell so well if it was that difficult.
Its great! I only had either clip in wefts before or glued taped
wefts. And with wefts you can't go that high up or they would show. Not
these. I put some above my temple, like only 2 inches from the top of
my head and my hair is THIN THIN THIN from damage. The bonds match
perfectly. I have dark roots and brown hair with highlights so I used
the Chestnut bond for all of them. And you cannot see anything! I had
my dd look from a foot away and she could not see anything. The bonds
are so small and match so well, nothing shows even through my thin
hair. So since i could go higher, I could use more hair. I was so
limited before. I still only needed about 4 oz of hair. I had to buy 4
oz of brown and 2 oz of brn/blonde highlight so I could match my own
hair colors. I have a small head and not a lot of thick hair so 4 oz is
fine for me. If you have one color OR you have the exact match to the
blended colors she carries you can really get away with the 4 oz only.
What I love about this if after awhile I get tried of the
highlighted look, I can color my hair all brown and take out the blond
bonds I have in and replace with the brown I have left. And no effort
or damage to take them out. It is a scary thing to get those out. The
hair condition is fabulous! It feels so silky and no tangles! none!
that lousy hair I had before (and you don't know what you'll get off
the internet these days) tangled after 5 minutes. I even had to have 2
inches cut off to make it A LITTLE more manageable. I had to wear it in
a pony all the time because I got so sick of brushing it every 5
minutes! I mean I was wearing my hair up all the time before because it
was damaged and looked awful down. So even after paying $700 to get
those in, I was still hiding my hair!!! I just use my fingers now. No
need for a comb, even after a night's sleep!
So I got the Regal hair one package of #6 Chestnut, and 14/24 which is #6 and a blonde mix. I used a total of about 4 ounces for a full head.
I already tried the removal as I just wanted to reposition a couple of
pieces and it was EASY and no damage to my hair! I bent it and it
crumbled off, I dusted and picked off the left overs and just redipped
the hair in the melting pot and put them back in. Viola! this is the
BEST system. If you are already going through the trouble of
installing strand by strand, why not use something that for sure won't
damage and is no beig deal to remove. With Keratin you can't reuse the
hair. this you can as I just said I did. this hair from Manemaxx is
QUALITY and I'm sure will last for months. The founder of Manemaxx and
Tembond has a diary on her site of like every month up to 5 or 6 months
she had hers in and the hair held up great.
This is so cool because I THOUGHT I would have to give up on getting extensions because my hair would not take anymore and still have any left. i want to thank the girl on here who told me about it. While asking about how to remove my skins she told me about this. I feel really lucky.
Wendy
You are beautiful and you did a beautiful application too. This is your first time? And how is it that you have a daughter old enough to be away at school???? You look wayyy to young!
I love the colors you chose. The highlights are very natural looking too.
Thank you for coming back and sharing your experiences. It seems that your hard work in learning about this has paid off tenfold. So sorry it was so painful to lose so much hair in that removal process of the skins. I'm sure you won't have to worry about it now.

Wendi,
Congratulations on your wonderful install! I love how sleek and shiny the hair looks!
I am glad you have found something that works for you and that you are comfortable doing.
You do look great on the pics girl!
I would like to add to people reading your post though, that Liquid Gold, tape and also seamless wefts are very safe methods, providing that you have the right products to remove them, and take your time.
I and many long time extensions wearers on this boards and other boards, are the proof that you can wear these methods safely and not damage your hair.
I know seeing LG booger or glue boogers coming out of your hair can look scary, I am totally used to it. When you wear wefts for several week, your own hair doesn't shed the way it's supposed to and stay trapped in the weft/glue, so when you do a take down, it looks like a lot of hair comes off at once. It's normal though.
At the beginning I used to take pics of my own hair at every take down, to keep track of how my hair really was, and it is growing. It is still dry - I do highlights- and fragile but it keeps getting longer lol
Anyway, that was just a side comment.
Again, big congrats on your DIY install, it looks like a professional job
