Purely out of interest, what is the biggest change you have ever made in your hair length at one time (i.e. extensions put in, or large amount cut off.)? Was it a spur of the moment decision, or did you have to think long and hard about it before doing it. If it was a spur of the moment decision, did it seem like a good idea in retrospect.
When I was 18 and living and working in Chicago-(this was 9 years ago) I decided to cut my long natural blonde hair-(that I had been growing for much of my life)- from it's super long length,-( past my rear end, thigh length straight hair)-.
I had my long hair cut into a bob cut , just above my shoulders.
A month or so later I had it cut into an even shorter bob cut. I eventually went to an even shorter cut, and have kept my hair short since. I wear a short crop today, pixie style.
The reasons that I cut my hair were that I guess I wanted to look less "girlish" and more sophisticated, I also was working as an escort at that time and many of the women at the escort service wore shorter cuts, especially bob cuts and that also convinced me to try a shorter style, and I was pretty busy at that time and didn't really want to take the time that is really necessary to maintain well groomed super long hair.
I liked having super long hair but I like my very short hairstyle now. I have a five year old daughter and when she was little it was especially easy to have very short hair.

I've never done anything thats been too drastic, but once, it must have been at least 6 years ago, I had my long hair (middle of back length) cut to about an inch above my shoulders. I regreted it dearly and to this day I don't think that I would ever get more than 5 inches cut off at a time. That way if you decide you want your hair shorter you can always go back to the salon in a few weeks. I think I probably chose to do it on the spot and I doubt I thought about it for as long as I should have.
