Hi guys,

After making the mistake of over-bleaching my hair, it's pretty much in the worst condition it's ever been in my life. I would say that it's completely fried from root to tip. It's severely broken off in chunks all over my head, most notably on the bottom layer and at the back. A couple sections of my hair that were once 20 inches, are now only 6 inches long. It's also very difficult to run a comb through my hair without it breaking off even more. My hair feels like straw, but the weird thing is that it's still shiny. You wouldn't really be able to tell that my hair was in horrible condition unless you felt it.

I've tried pretty much everything to get my hair back into decent condition. I use the best shampoos & conditioners, I do a protein reconstructor once a week, I only wash it every few days, I stay away from heat styling, but none of that has really made a difference. I know that in order to get it back into good condition I'd probably have to cut it very very short but I can't bear to lose all this length after trying to grow it out for years.

Can anyone give me some advice on how I can try to get my hair back into decent condition without hacking it all off? For example, are there any good treatments out there for severely damaged hair? I've been using Nexxus Emergencee for about a month now, but it's done nothing for my hair although it has excellent reviews. Is there anything better out there?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, no there is nothing to be done but to cut the damage off. trust me i battled with it for a while after my hair was melting off in clumps from a bleach job. All i can suggest is baby what you have now by keeping it back in updos and staying away from heat. Check out  the long hair section and the journals. many of us have been throw the same thing and are in a growing out process. good luck

Nexxus Emergencee does have good reviews, and it is a good product but a better product for your severely damaged hair is, "Cholestrol Deep Conditioning Cream."  It works my hair wonders! :) And also Joico K-Pak Daily Recontruct Conditoner. That also works my hair wonders too, and my hair got damaged from bleaching then putting a permanent color on top of bleach, and I only hair 10" of hair.  i can imagine how you feel about trying to keep those 20" of hair.  But in the meantime I had to trim off the damage a little at a time, and I'm still trimming off damaged hairs and splits until all of it is gone.  But my hair is still long though.
