There are many reasons for hair loss. It is actually a complex topic and there is no easy one-stop-shop answer.
Although stress can be a trigger, there is usually other underlying reasons ranging from hormonal changes (birth control pills or other hormonal formulations can cause sudden hair loss), medications, thyroid changes, nutritional changes, lifestyle changes and others.
Using chemicals on your hair can also cause hair to become weak and more prone to breakage or shedding.
The very first thing you need to do is stop and think of what you might have been doing with your hair leading up to the beginning of it falling out. Were you using lots of chemicals on it? Were you using hot tools on it daily or frequently?
Also think about your diet. Did you add or subtract foods? Sometimes in preparation for a wedding or big event people will go on a new diet to lose a few pounds to look great. There is a known connection to dieting and hair loss.
Vitamins designed specifically to strengthen the hair can help many. However, even that is not a quick fix. It can take 30-45 days for a really good hair vitamin to make an impact on the body.
Of course there could also be other factors. Stress can often impact the thyroid and if the thyroid is stressed it can also cause hair loss.
I would stop and think of everything that has happened in the past six months to try and figure out the root cause. Until you know what it might be, it will be harder to fix it.
In the meantime make sure you are drinking plenty of water every day. When the body is dehydrated it can cause the scalp to shed hair. Also make sure you are eating enough protein. One food which will instantly help help is seaweed. I like to eat Nori as a way to help my hair but you can take kelp tablets.
If you have recently started taking any new meds for whatever reason, check the side effects to see if hair loss is listed. Some medications for high blood pressure will cause hair loss. There are actually quite a few that will cause shedding.
Hope that helps you get started.
That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
