Hey everyone, i'm new to this forum so il introduce myself here while im at it- my names kat! im 20 and im trying to get nice hair! thats about it! Smile this is prob gonna be a long post but i really want some good advice so il give the whole story!!

i naturally had browny/reddish hair- years ago!- and i had been bleaching it at home for about a year or two and eventually got fed up of blonde (and my hair had enough of the abuse!) so i went to a hairdresser and asked her to dye it bright red but what she did was use a permanent dye to bring it back to my natural colour and then put a semi permanent red over it- which gave me a really subtle red and only lasted about a week or two Angry

so after constantly wasting my money on her doing different semi perm colours i eventually decided to just use a permanent home dye (the live XXL colours, im in ireland so dunno if you'll know) for my roots and ends and then using a semi permanent (stargazer) all over afterwards! which turned out ok but now i want it to be brighter... so..

is it safe, after all my colouring and damaging, to bleach it in order to get a light base and then use the semi permanent over it? should i go to a hairdresser and ask them to lighten it for me? my hair is a bit dry from being coloured and the ghd but its by no means like straw- just in need of some tlc and a good chop- which i intend to get soon!

please let me know the best course of action! im willing to spend a bit of money for the right result but would prefer not to!! Wink

Since you've got bleached hair underneath and you've only gone red (the dye with the smallest molecules), I'd try a color remover like Color Oops or Colorfix first. It is low peroxide and it will shrink the dye molecules so you can rinse them out (rinse really well). I'm not sure if you can get it in Ireland - maybe buying it online if not? It should be all you need to get rid of the dye and back to the bleached base to redo it the way you want.

Be sure to test strand, red over a very light base has a pretty good chance of coming out bright pink or orange.

thank you so much for your reply! i had actually thought about doing that with a colour remover but i didnt want to use that and then end up having to use the bleach anyway so... i just bleached it!

i had two weeks holidays from work, and halloween was coming up too so i decided if it comes out wrong it doesnt matter, and il have enough time to fix it! and it turned out amazing! i LOVED the result that bleaching red gave, it was like an orange/salmon pink colour- really weird but i was tempted to keep it that way coz it was so unique! but now its a beautiful red as red could be colour!

thanks a million!
