Hi Guys, Im new to this forum.

is there any thing you can recommend to me. I was a red head for a while but I'm trying to go back to my natural color now, which is a dark brown, but my hair still has this unnatural red look?

Red is kind of hard to remove or color over. It can be done though. You might try one of the many hair color removers out there before you re-tint. It is up to you how to go about doing this though. A couple different things would probably work including just dying it a couple of times. I normally do not recommend that, but if you are going darker and your hair is in good condition, you can do it (multiple layers of color) sometimes with minimal damage.

That is really about your only option other than using a color remover and then recoloring. I know several people here have used color removers with good results, generally though I am not a fan. I find it often more damaging when going darker than just layering tint (again something I don't recommend doing hardly ever).

I would go for a tint that is ash or cool based to counteract the red and maybe add some unred (available at Sally's or other beauty supply stores) or even some blue or violet intensifier (probably better yet a green pigment or green based Ash if you can find one). The thing is though those are really more designed for just changing the tonal quality of the hair and may give too subtle of a result than what you want. They are fairly inexpensive though if you wish to try it.

Hi - I need help, lots and lots of help
i originally had naturally slightly ashy blonde hair which was very lovely
I thought FOR FUN that I would temporarily dye it a mid brown which came out a bit lighter than i had wanted but nice none the less.
then on my birthday i decided it would be nice to be blonde again - and used a permanent peroxide and it turned bright orange. so...
the next day i used a home colour remover which left it feeling like it had been covered in superglue and was canary yellow
so THEN i dyed it temporarily brown again. which made it look normal and fine again.
but now i just want to rid myself of the entire traumatic experience. and be a lovely natural looking blonde again
how can i make this happen?
please thank you thank you

It sounds like your hair has been through a lot, Becca. I would probably give it a break for several weeks and condition the heck out of it. I would probably enlist the help of a stylist to get it back in good condition and just keep it colored with a temporary color.

What you could have done was just tone it when you had it at yellow. If the color you used is just a temporary color, when it starts getting washed out, just *tone* your hair. Do not dye or lighten it again. If you use a blue or violet based blonde (usually will be listed as "cool" or "ash" in the over the counter colors), that should cut through some of the yellow once you get the brown washed out. Just use something that says it is no-lift or deposit only, like a demi permanent color or toner.

If the last brown you used is a permanent color, again I would probably just leave it be for several months and start working with a stylist to get it back in good condition. At that point, you might consider gradually having highlights added.

Thanks so much for the reply

It was a few weeks ago now when I dyed it brown. Since then I have been trying to wash it as infrequently as possible and i have been using a deep conditioner every time I do, then leave in conditioner after that - and not blow drying/straightening.

I think what I will do is let this brown fade as much as possible then use a temporary ash blonde on it as you suggested

Ah - full of regret and missing my old lovely hair!

I think you should wait for months to get your natural colored hair back but if you insist you can dye it after three months.
