I feel like Heloise just sprouting tips unsolicited, but:
People here have recommended diluting shampoo with water to make it more gentle on your hair. Well... I find it kind of difficult to put a small amount of shampoo in my hand and then get some water to mix in with it without rinsing all the shampoo off my hand!
So crazy me, this is what I came up with. 1. Put small dollop of shampoo in hand. Lightly rub your hands together to spread the poo all over your hands. 2. Tilt head back under the water. 3. In a split second, bring your hair out of the water, put your hands into your sopping wet hair!

I used to put a little shampoo in an empty shampoo bottle, add some water, put the cap on and shake it up. Then wet hair and pour on the diluted mixture.
This was not my invention, though!!! I learnt it from another inventive poster just like our Grover.
Thanks for sharing and keep these tips coming.
Hmmmmm....we should build up a dossier of clever hair tips that would be like "potted wisdom" for all who come here.
I dilute shampoo with the bottle method, too, and just squirt it straight from the container to my hair. This is how I justify the occasional $hampoo $plurge!

I use the "empty-bottle" method described by Uzi and Jean. It works very, very well for me. A little goes a long way!
Before I ever tried that method, I experimented with the same unsuccessful method that SuperGrover had... the puddle of 'poo ran right off the hands or dripped through the fingers... the method that works for you sounds intriguing, SuperG. Maybe I'll use it sometime.

i need to try one of these ideas. as a matter of fact I JUST washed my hair (its soaking wet right now) and i was realy freustrated because its always hard to get the shampoo to spread around in my hair and i have to use too much.
BSL/Blonde/Chemically Treated (abused) 1b/cMii I swear by Redken Extreme and Shea Butter.

Has anyone heard of the CWC (condition, wash, condition) method? What you do is condition your hair and then put the shampoo in it before rinsing out the conditioner. Next rinse out the shampoo/conditioner mix and condition again. I tried it for the first time today and it seemed to work well. I guess the point is to protect the hair from the drying shampoo while still getting it clean.

I found the best shampoo to use that is gentle on my hair is Johnson & Johnson shampoo for babies. It doesn't strip natural oils away. It was made to be very gentle on the hair and scalp....as babies have very sensitive skin and delicate hair. Then i just follow with my regular conditioner.
