I'm 16 and I'll be entering my senior year of high school in exactly 2 weeks. I've been looking into doing something different with my hair as I enter my senior year. As of right now, my hair is slightly layered (though you can't tell unless I take lots of time to style it), its a plain brown, its straight and goes to a little past my shoulders, and its THICK!! When I go out I usually gel it and scrunch it so it looks curley. I've thought about getting a perm because I love the way my hair looks when its scrunchy. I'm not sure, though, because my hair has been dyed many times. I've also thought about getting black lowlights put in or getting blonde highlights. I'll be going to a professional no matter what I decide to do (if anything) Unfortunately the only salon I can afford isn't much for helping me with ideas and they don't do consultations.

Hi and welcome to the boards!
I like your hair the way it is. I know that you're looking for change, but it's so pretty right now. I know that's not what you probably wanted to hear, but I say keep it the way it is.

A lot of people say they like my hair. But it frizzes SO easily! I use Fructis Frizz Control but it does nothing for me. I thought if I at least got highlights/lowlights or permed it then it would look different and I'd be able to try new styles to hide the frizz. Maybe I should just cut it? I'm not sure though because I've been trying to grow it out for so long...

I've colored my hair in the past, but I've never high/lowlighted it before so I don't know much about that. I've been growing my hair out too, so I know what you mean about really not wanting to cut it. And, I've done the perm thing when I started to want something different, and I've regretted it. It's almost one of those grass being greener on the other side things. When you say cut, are you thinking about alot or just a trim to help get rid of the frizzies? I can see you either way. With a nice short cut or keeping it long. You have the features for it either way.

When I say cut I mean drastic. All my frizzies are on the top of my head so cutting my hair wont affect it.
Can anyone recommend a good, yet inexpensive, frizz serum to control my hair?

I think I may be looking for a new look for my hair also because I've been seriously neglecting it this summer. I wash and condition it every other day with Dove Intense Moisture. But it's in a ponytail ALL the time, except for a few hours on the weekend when its gelled and I'm 'out on the town.'

I think short would loo great on you. Also the John Freeda Frizz ease is quite good, if expensive.

Sorry everybody, I post the same thing over and over for frizz.... I'm sure people are sick of my repetitiveness by now.

Most frizz is genetic. The rest is either damage, lack or moisture, or improper washing. Frizz can be at least slightly reduced by wet-combing with a seamless comb, or certain conditioners depending on how fine/coarse your hair is. Maybe your hair likes silicones-- you could try Suave BioBasics and see. I've also noticed less frizz after starting a pre-wash heavy oiling routine.

I hope you don't end up cutting your hair... it looks gorgeous on you.

Thank you for the compliment :)

My frizz is most likely from damage. I've dyed my hair more times than I'll ever admit. I also straighten it a lot and I've had it permed before. I'll be sure to check out the biobasics though, thanks.
