Hi All,

I have colored my hair from dark brown to light brown or light auburn for years. I have always liked having highlights, but the few times I have tried on my own or at salons, I have always been unhappy with the results (always too orange). So I decided to learn a little more and figure it out once and for all. I also have decided to move away from auburn and toward a cooler brown. My current color looks like this...http://www.eva-longoria.net/gallery/data/903/medium/eva114.jpg only the blonde streaks are chunkier and more of a light orange/blonde. I achieved this by using these products I got at Sally's:
- Ion Creme Permanent 5R-5.6 light red brown + 30 vol. developer for 30 min. to roots (I am 25-50% grey)
- shampoo, color sealer, dry completely
- Clairol BW2 lightener + 30 volume creme Salon Care
- paint on, foils, leave 40 min.
- shampoo, color sealer.

I would like to lighten it all up, get rid of a lot of the red tones, but still have dimensions/highlights. Kind of like a light brown-dark blonde with highlights (think Jennifer Aniston on a brown day).http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2007/stylewatch/gallery/jennifer_aniston/jennifer_aniston7.jpg

My problem is, my hair always turns out darker and orangier than I want. I gave into it for a while by just using Perfect10 Medium Auburn, but what I really want is less red and more lightest brown with highlights. I also want a reliable method to be able to keep up the color and highlighting myself. Any suggestions?

Thank you all so much!

If you want your hair to be allover a bit lighter, maybe you should try a color remover first to see how much red you can get out, and then deside on which toner. If the hair is still to warm/orange you should choose a ash base toner (but since you have grey hair you need to mix it with a neutral dye toner for the roots otherwise they can turn blue)
