Hmmm, I think I am much more low maitenance when it come to what I use on my hair...shampoo and conditioner and thats it.

Ohh the horrors of hairspray! =)

As for clips: a soft ponytail holder (no metal) and a toothed clip and Ill be happy. A smaller clip to put part up is also useful.

As for curling and such. generaly I let my hair air dry and i do not curl it. but when i do curl i use overnight rollers, the soft ones of course. No use of anything heated!

Yeah, Nez. Like Moonshadow said... and I think it was me she was referring to:
Scunci Style "No Damage" SuperSoft it says on the package. A lot of drug stores carry them.
They're awesome! They're fatter than most regular elastics, so they don't leave a crease or dent in your hair when you take them out.

Moonshadow, welcome! I agree -- those ponytail holders are a must in the summertime. They help make long hair as cool, if not cooler, than short hair.

And welcome to galadriel, too! I also like the Aveda beautifying Composition oil.

Welcome also to Nez! (rolls out the red carpet to our new members).

Oh, and Jacqui, I love your illustration! And Laine, the flaming "Laine" is really cool.

Nez, someone somewhere on another post mentioned these hair elastics by Scunci, so I went out and found them. I LOVE them. The package says "No Damage Won't dent or pull hair". They're actually made from nylons, but you'd never know to just look at them-. There are black, dark brown, and beige ties in the package. I've found them at Kmart and CVS. My husband has hair to his waist and he uses the thick, black ponytail elastics that don't have the metal thing on them, so it won't rip your hair out when you take it out.

My must-have would be the Scunci things- especially now that it's hot out. Couldn't live without them

which reminds me, I've recently misplaced my satin pillow and my hair break off all over my pillow. Damn hair dye. I need to buy a new pillowcase. My natural bristle brush is missing, my wide toothed comb is missing, my leave in conditioner is long gone.

All thats left is a round brush, blowdryer, and straighening iron. And my hair is already straight.

My list:

- wide toothed, seamless comb
- high quality boar bristle brush
- a box of FranceLuxe accessories (okay, if I had to go for essentials only I'd choose a french twist comb and a pair of hair sticks) and a wooden hair fork
- cheap, light conditioner for C/O washes
- a good moisturizing conditioner (my favourite is Nivea conditioner for colour treated hair).
- Logona henna
- BonaCure Seal The Ends leave-in.
Cheers,
Madeleine

I forgot to mention scrunchies.
Lots of them in silk, satin, suede and velvet.

Hi!

I made myself a satin pillowcase and it works great. However, I think I am going to have to try the silk since you guys mentioned it feels even softer.

My list right now is as follows:
Wide tooth seamless comb
boars hair brush for use to spread jojoba or other oils through hair.
Jojoba and lavender oils
burts bees hair treatment(has oat protein, avocado oile, orange oil, vitamin e, nettle and rosemary)
Avalon Organic lavender Shampoo and Conditioner
Aveda Elixir on ends

When i need to put a polish on it, I put a little Artec Smooth on when wet and it dries frizz free!!

Ooh reading all this makes me want to go out and go shopping! (Or more accurately, shop at home online )

I just wanted to say that my Silk pillowcase isn't too hard to care for. I just toss it in the washer on the delicate cycle with Woolite. I have a lot of delicate clothes, so I usually find myself doing a delicate cycle wash once every week or 2 anyway.

I thought the first time I washed my silk pillowcase that it wouldn't be as soft afterward. I used to have some silk shirts and they were never the same again after washing. But I'm happy to report that my silk pillowcase is still as soft as new, and I've probably washed it 5 or 6 times by now.

1. Jojoba oil
2. Loreal MegaMoisture deep conditioner
3. Mason Pearson rake and dressing combs
4. Africa's Best oil
5. hairsticks from Sephora - smooth, seamless plastic, all-purpose, go with everything - in black and tortiseshell. I'm looking at some from FranceLuxe.
6. Good Hair Days hair pins - I'll never use another bobby pin.
7. Clairol Renewal 5x Daily Nourishment leave in conditioner - for my ends.

Hi SuperGrover

During my hair oil adventures, I picked up a bottle of this stuff at an Indian store.
I'm hooked and have been using it every day because the results are terrific.

Here are the ingredients:
Coconut oil
Almond oil
Castor oil
Amla fruit (Indian Gooseberry)
Brahmi leaves (Herpestis Monniera)
Bringraj (Eclipta Alba)
Jasvand (Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis)
Neem leaves (Margosa)
Harde (Terminalia Chebula)
Mehendi (Lawsonia Alba)
Kachura (Curcuma Zedoaria)
Manjishta (Rubia Cordifolia)

I am familiar with most of the ayurvedic herbal ingredients as they are well known for strengthening hair roots and promoting long hair.
I was actually looking for the dried herbs when I came across the oil, which was a stroke of luck .

Hey all,

I really do have a life off the computer!

My list:

1.)spray bottle with conditioner/H2O mix
2.)wide tooth comb
3.)Silk pillowcase which IMHO is as effective as satin to prevent tangles, but is a heckuva lot cooler to sleep on.
4.)Scarves: keeps my hair from tangling/sunfrying/out of purse and seatbelt straps/hiding hair that desperately needs wash &/or color/keeping shorter strands that aren't long enough out of my eyes and mouth/cleaner.
5.) Jaw clip for shower; it squeezes the conditioner into the ends of my layers and out of the way while I'm sudsing/shaving/whatever.

Laine, I can identify with not being able to get what you need in the military exchanges, or making do with what you can get. You must be doing overseas duty.

Hi Laine

SuperGrover is right.
I experience fewer tangles and, incidentally, have shinier hair when I sleep on satin or silk.

Silk is better than satin...I have a big silk scarf that I wrap around the pillow when I stay over at my parent's house...hair feels a lot softer.
But satin is cheaper and easier to care for. I just put my home-made satin pillowcases in the washing machine, whereas I would have to handwash silk.
I do intend to buy a stock of raw silk when I travel to the east later this year. Specially for long hair friendly bedding .

Laine - please do post more often. I remember your previous mails here and can confirm that you are nothing like YOTT.
