QuoteReplyTopic: cost estimate? Posted: October 14 2011 at 5:20pm
I have very short (pixie cut) naturally black hair (never dyed). I want to go blonde at a salon, so I was wondering if anyone has a price estimate for what this will cost? I know it will be more since my hair is black, but it shouldn't have to be stripped because it's not dyed right? Also, short hair means a lot less bleach, etc that needs to be used. I don't live in a big city, I won't be going to any fancy upscale salon. Just wondering if anyone could estimate from experience what this might cost me
When it comes to taking black hair - dyed or not - to blonde, it can be quite an ordeal. Some hairstylists are not willing to take on a task such as this. Others may, but it does require removing all the black and taking the hair through stages of lightening.
When Katy Perry went from raven black to light golden blonde it took several weeks. It can be done over the course of maybe 2-3 days but it can leave the hair incredibly damaged.
The price depends on a lot of factors, regardless how short your hair is. The factors include how many hours a hairstylist has to work on your hair because in this case they would probably come up with an hourly charge. There would also be any deep conditioning treatments that might need to be done inbetween the dye removal and lifting sessions.
Probably the best thing to do would be to get a few estimates - if that's a possibility where you live - to see what the price might be.
Going from black - dyed or not dyed - is definitely a big process. Sometimes when hair is dyed black and the original or natural color was light, the cuticles can become stained with the black hair color and that can mean it would take much longer to lift to lighter colors.
Let us all know what you decide to do.
Best of luck to you.
