Help! Serious terror against growing hair!

Ah dont listen to them! My coworker is over 40 and her hair is just below waist lenght. She rarely ties it up for work and looks beautiful. I in particular want long hair when Im older...even grandma age.

One more "comeback" for when you cannot afford to insult the other person at all (for instance, perhaps your boss' wife) is simply to say, "I'll certainly give that some thought," and smile. No one can argue with that!

When I cut my hair, I think the worst question I had was, "Do you like it?" What a horrible question! If I answered yes, then I was lying. If I answered no, then the person would feel it his moral obligation to talk me into liking it. And, since I did not bring up the subject, I felt it incredibly rude that someone would make such a big deal out of my appearance. Even though it was positive, it was negative to me since I didn't care for the change.

We constantly criticize Hollywood as being the land of the "plastic and artificially beautiful" people who care more about the outside than the inside, but it seems to me that the rest of society is slowly following suit.

The next time someone makes some kind of ridiculous remark about why you should wear short hair, just run your fingers through your gorgeous tresses, smile seductively, and say, "Yes, a lot of people would love to have my hair....!" Then, walk away while flipping your long locks over your shoulder.....

Do you honestly? First of all, I'm one who advocates that a lot of people today spend far, far too much time making unsolicited comments on the appearance of others.

Secondly, if someone said that he preferred your hair short simply because he likes it like that, it's a comment of mere preference.

However....it seems to be that the above comment that you stated smacks of insecurity and jealousy from the person who uttered it. (Any person with half a brain will read that I did not say that every positive comment about short hair spells out insecurity and jealousy of others.) But, when someone gives an unsolicited opinion that is not only meant to persuade but is also slightly degrading to your current style ("more suitable" hair for a woman in her 30s), it certainly gives the appearance that someone is perhaps not so comfortable with her own choice and is trying to make herself feel better at your expense.

However, if men are giving these comments, my observations are irrelevant and voided!

Out of curiosity, who are making these kinds of comments more often -- men or women?

The only thing that I personally don't care to see on the decreipt, elderly women over 30...(just teasing, I'm one, too) is huge hair bows. To me, they simply look a bit silly and more like a piece of costume jewelry one might wear at Halloween. I never have and never would tell that to someone wearing one, but I simply don't care for that look at all. But elegant barrettes and headbands and hairsticks and other hair jewelry are extremely chic and I think add an extra element of femininity to a woman's long, luscious locks!

I have to admit that it hasn't been that long since I decided that I would rather possess style than be stylish. Stylish women all line up at the salon and boutiques for identical factory haircuts and clothing. A woman with style carves her own path of fashion and beauty.

I don't listen to people who say people past a certain age shouldn't have long hair. I'm going to have long hair for my entire life (barring catastrophe.) I think long hair is a great look for a mature woman.

CONGRATS 3KATZ!!! A french braid is something I can still remember having...but I´m a looong looong way from it. One day...I´m telling you guys. One day...
Thank you Grower for the shark jaw- idea. Actually I´ve been using it quite a lot. It is very feminine and I love it.
Since I´ve adieud all my styling equipment I´ve relied on jaws, pins, scrunchies and such stuff. I also try to vary the point where I put my hair up, since I try to avoid any breakage or un-necessary pull to my roots. I´ve also put some fresh flovers and decorative hairpins, clips and so on my hair when it´s up to spice up my growing time.
I´m not happy with the shortness of my hair so I don´t wear it open. In a couple of inches, sure. Not just now.
And to comment on short hair and its relativeness; a friend of mine had a waist- lenght hair and cut it a couple of inches to get the damaged part of hair off (She had high-lights and perm-NON´T DO THAT STUFF!!!)She was happy to get her hair back to good condition but now she is growing her hair back to waist lenght. She is still talking of having short hair...

One product I have to introduce to you all. It´s a leave-in conditioner from Body- Shop:PALMSHINE. Amazing stuff! Smells good and you can just literally pour it into your hair and it doesn´t get heavy or greasy. I´ve put all my long- haired gals on this stuff. And when you comb your hair after you´ve put it on it closes nicely the cuticles on your hair and prolonges the dreaded visitations to salon...

p-b, you crack me up. Yes, that space ship ought to be oughta here already! You and your friends just ignore that old, out-dated dogma about who supposedly can't have long hair. Great that you have the determination to get back that length. I'm sure you will!

Oh, and to you, SuperGrover and Dana, long is simply a relative term. What's long to others doesn't have to be "long" to you (and it isn't). So you just go right ahead and grow your hair as long as you each want.

You are lucky to have long hair friends in your life to help you. Most of us here only have each other in cyberspace.

And I thought it was funny what you said about thinking of yourself as still having short hair. My hair is bra strap length and awhile ago at work I said to someone that I was trying to grow it out long and they said "It already is long!"
I always thought of waist length hair as long.
But then the other day I had to call someone at work for help with a project and halfway through our conversation she says "Traci... you're that gal with long blond hair, right? I've seen you around." That made me feel proud.

It sounds like your hair is the perfect length for one of my favorite hair dos that my hair is now too long to do. You get one of those shark jaw clips... put your hair in a low ponytail, twist it, fold it up so your ends are sticking up in the air, clip the folded pony to your head, tousel the ends so they look all messy. Very cute! Very easy!
