My hair is about a 6 ash brown (it's like the lightest brown you can be before being blondish brown) and I have tried to go dark ash blond (7-8) in the past at salons and they have tried dying it to the color I wanted it but to no avail. The first time they did it, they used 30 or 40 developer with an ash 7 or 8 and a blue violet toner. It came out the right lightness, but completely orange looking in the sun. So I went in again for a redo and they bleached my hair to a pale orangy yellow, put a toner on it, and then dyed it with a neutral and an ash, and it still ended up being orangish.
So now I'm thinking of doing it myself, and I'm considering using goldwell products since I've heard a lot of good things about them. But I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should get the Oxycur bleach and bleach my hair to yellow and then use the Goldwell Topchic color in 8SB (pretty ash). or just use 40 developer with the dye for a one step process. I just wonder if the brand she used had something to do with the results and maybe if I used goldwell it would turn out fine with a one step process. I know I'd probably get an ashier result from bleaching but I also wouldn't mind a little gold as long as it's not orange gold.
Also, since I'm not going light blond, is there a need for a toner? Thanks you guys
