I'm a 24-year-old woman from South Florida with naturally straight, floor-length, dark brown hair. My height is 5'8", and my hair gently dusts the floor by an inch. So my hair length is 5'9". I'm looking to find some different styles for my hair besides my usual buns, topknots, and just wearing it loose down my back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.Crystal

> Dear Crystal,Hello, you can try wearing a baseball cap for outdoor activities. It will keep your hair in place while giving you a different look. Loop your hair through the hole in the back of the hat.Are you any good at braids? A three strand braid works quie easily and looks neat.Have you tried The Hairdini or Braidini? I have heard from my girlfriend (who has butt-length hair) that the Hairdini sometimes does not stay. Try using this a day after you wash your hair it should stay in better.Being from Florida you may want to try putting all that hair under a cowboy hat after setting it in jumbo rollers, When you want to show-off your hair simply remove your hat and let all that beautiful hair down.Let me know if any one of these works for you by e-mailing me. By the way, I met Crystal Gayle twice. Is that your real name or is it the name you use on the message boards?Sincerely,Randy B.Longest Hair in AmericaEditor/PublisherI'm a 24-year-old woman from South Florida with> naturally straight, floor-length, dark brown hair. You could just get a perm, but I don't know who does perms for your length of hair.Cordially,Steve

> Dear Crystal:Sounds like you've tried down and up. Here are two "midway" suggestions:1) Knot & FlipIn this style, the hair is tied loosely in an overhand knot below the shoulder. This will shorten your hair. Next, you flip the ends either with rollers or a curling iron. The combination of a straight fall, knot and curls is elegant, and will wow crowds at formal and evening functions.2) Corkscrew CurlsYou make these with special curlers or a specialized curling iron. This style is for fun and parties.Let me know if I can help. I'm in Miami.--Wesswd3@earthlink.net

It is all one length. The ends are quite healthy, as I keep the hair up most of the time.

I don't plan on cutting it or trimming it anytime soon. I want to see how long it will get. As for the perm, I've heard that perms damage the hair, so that's what makes me wary of getting one.

Normally when I go out, I get quite a few looks, and some people even stop me and ask questions. But in the past I have always had my hair piled on top of my head. On Saturday though, with my hair through the back of the cap, a lot more people than usual were making comments, most of them positive. There aren't too many people in this area with hair as long as mine. All the best.CrystalOh, and yes, Crystal is my real name, but I've never met Ms. Gayle. I sure would like to though, she seems really nice on TV. Thanks again for the style ideas.

I'm an artist based in the UK, and I'd love to have the chance to draw you and celebrate your beauty. Thank you for sharing it with us in words, and I hope very much to see images soon (and the same goes for any other rapunzel-haired readers - sadly there seem to be very few ladies with knee-length or longer hair here in England). Keep enjoying your lovely tresses. John

I've been coming to these message boards for only about three months, and in that time, I've seen them deteriorate from the positive, helpful, interesting and legitimate forums to what we see here now. Except for the regular Hair Talk board, these boards are dominated by charlatans who at best simply have far too much free time on their hands, or who at worst are sick minds that get their jollies through perpetrating subterfuge. Either case is a sorry state of affairs for a web site that has been one of the best hair web sites on the Net. There isn't anything here worth reading or responding to anymore. How long before Hair Talk falls?"Crystal," or more accurately put, John: many of us remember you from TLHS!!Jennifer Eve

Apologies for failed message first time around (still getting used to the process), but hopefully this is loud and clear:- To 'Crystal', if you are real, please show your hair and the new styles for us all to see on TLHS or elsewhere - but if you are but a fantasy, it's time to put up and shut up. I for one am a John who doesn't like his name dragged through the dirt by association!JohnP> I've been coming to these message boards for only> about three months, and in that time, I've seen them> deteriorate from the positive, helpful, interesting> and legitimate forums to what we see here now.
