Apparently bangs are "in". And long layered hair is boring wiht out them. Read the article if your interested: http://women.msn.com/52271.armx

"Who wouldn’t want bangs? They’re flattering, sassy and versatile. Amy Farid, stylist for Bumble and Bumble, encourages getting bangs to add some flair to your hair. “They’re ‘instant style’ for any hairstyle. Bangs are a great fashion statement, and they add style to people who have boring long, layered hair and don’t want to get it cut. It adds new freshness and makes a bold statement,” says Farid. "

Personaly I wouldnt run off and cut some bangs. In a year or two no bangs will be back in and those who are trend followers will take a long and frusterating akward time to get them to grow out again.

If you like bangs, keep um. If you dont why would you want to cut them?

And who wouldnt want bangs? I wouldnt. Doesnt suit me.

"...bangs are the new hairstyle of the season, and they’re making headway in an industry that rarely sees one trend rise so squarely above the others, front and center. "

And what is THAT supposed to mean? Where they just trying to make a cute pun or were they serious that trends rise rarely so "squarely above the others, front and center" It doesnt make sence to me as anything other than a stupid sounding pun.

Maintaining bangs would require regular trips to a hairstylist even for people who have long hair. Hmmm....

Semi-related factoid: male bangs with long hair was "in" at one time in the 1970s. One famous example is ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus.

If an article or so called expert tells you what the style is and you follow it like a lemming, you will end up like a lemming. Off the cliff with the rest. Have a backbone ladies, just say no to the laughable fads.

Bangs might be in right now, but some of us have had bangs for a long time now!!!!!
Man, if people stuck with the popular hair styles, they would be using LOTS of hair extensions. Sometimes short hair is in, sometimes long. I think that whatever looks good no you, stick with it. No reason to change just because some actress or model has it.
Some things look good on people, some don't. Thats just a fact of life!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I don't feel that bangs are a laughable fad. They are just something that has been around for a long time. I think that shaving one's head qualifies for more than a laughable fad, other than just someone cutting some bangs.

I'm with you all the way, Erinlynn.

To me, the article reeks of one thing: HYPE!!

The article's author writes, "Who wouldn’t want bangs? They’re flattering, sassy and versatile."

I could say, "Who wouldn’t want the no-bangs look? It’s flattering, sassy and versatile."

Why should her words have any particular merit? She's merely a professional writer. Nobody died and put her in charge of defining what's flattering, sassy and versatile.

She also writes, "The boldest look in bangs—at least this very nanosecond..."

That's the sort of statement that should induce even the most die-hard trendoid to want to wait to see what trend develops in the next nanosecond.

Stylist Elie Camoro is quoted as saying "the best candidate [for bangs] is someone with gorgeous eyes." Quelle surprise. The fashion/beauty industry relies upon using beautiful women to imcrease the appeal of all sorts of otherwise questionable looks... the current trendy bangs, included.

The stylist is also quoted as saying, "They create tension on the upper part of the face." Say what? Hello? Earth to Elie! Bangs create nothing. Bangs are relatively short sections of hair near the hairline of the forehead, period. From what I've heard from some people, the only thing that bangs create on the upper part of the face is pimples.

The author writes, "The exaggerated bang, which hits the cheekbone squarely, grows out beautifully, providing the scared-shearless a safety net."

Right. A safety net? Grows out beautifully? Pure rubbish. Anybody whose hair is around waist-length and growing out bangs knows that it's a multi-year process.

Sure, I'll grant that the article was cleverly written. But the message is so unappealing it needs such nifty writing to have any hope of selling it. Well, no thanks. I'm not buying it.

Fashion magazines are all about entertaining, and selling stuff. And for some reason, getting to buy seems to entertain most of us... Bangs are high maintenance (I had to see my hairdresser every four weeks when I had them - of course she was happy!), and ever changing fashions are profibable for the industry. Blaha blaha. Pass it on.
The more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

Ok, so it seems that there are many differnent opinions about the 'bangs issue'. I have bangs myself, and long hair, and am wondering if the fact that I have the bangs is slowing the growth down at all. They aren't thick at all, just blunt cut very-thin whisps (eyebrow length generally). What do you guys think?

Actually, Monica, my comment was not about bashing bangs... I was bashing the "hype" method of the article.

You have bangs, you like bangs, so more power to you. Especially since it was not promoted by a fashion magazine.

And Viktoria, of course you are right that the article is consistent with the purpose of such magazines... that doesn't prevent the expression of contrary opinions.

I have bangs. I look much better with them (and don't get pimples from them- though they would hide pimples anyway). I'm not a "slave" to a hairdresser since I cut them myself (so easy!). I've had them most of my life.

That is so ridiculous. Who decides what is in or not?

You shouldn't go get bangs cut in because they're "in," you should wear them because they look good on you.

Amanda,
I have to agree too with cutting them myself. I have always cut my own bangs, except when I go for an overall trim.

I think that I look better with them too!!!

And to everyone else..hehe
I personally think that most Fashion magazines are all junk. Most of the clothes in them I wouldn't ever wear, and some of the makeup/hair styles are attrocious! (spelling) But, to each his own, and thats all I have to say about that...

Nope, not bang bashing. Just like Dave explained I was trying to bash hype. In fact I think bangs are very nice on certain people and I probably would look good in them too. But still "who wouldnt want bangs...". I wouldnt. Too much trouble and I really like the no bang look on me much better.

If i did have bangs Id want them to be short curly little wisps like in a victorian hairstyle or greek goddess... Ive always liked that look.

I used to have bangs and I found I was spending too much time trimming them etc. One of my girlfriends sleeps with a tiny roller so that when she wakes up in the morning its fluffy. My other girlfriend spends a lot of time fluffy her bang also.

ON the right person I think they are great. ON the wrong person I find it makes someone look outdated. The problem that my friends seem to have is to find someone that actually knows how to cut straight.
Its fun to see what is in with hairstyles.

Actually, I think it´s great that people have strong opinions, can express them, and *change* them whenever they feel the need to. But I´m not sure I´d call fashion magazine statements "opinions". More like "entertainment".

And on the bang bashing issue - I think bangs are cute on anyone that they fit. And anyone that wants them should have them. (If there was a thumbs up quick smiley I´d put it in here.)

I just don't think that one size fits all, but I do agree that this article was just an opinion, but do understand exactly what you're saying Erinlynn. Someone will decide a certain style is 'in', and that people should 'try the look'. I'm growing my bangs out, but I do think bangs do look good on some if not most people. I also think one length hair looks great, so I'm trying to achieve that look (and it can be an irritating process!)

Now, there is a certain bang look I'm not so fond of. The sausage curl, and I think I sported one in Jr. High.

Stupid question time. What are bangs? I thought that they were the bits of hair what are about jaw-length either side of your face, when I first started to read American websites. Before that I'd never heard the term. Now though I'm wondering if they're what the British call fringes, because I've never heard anyone here mention finges, and that's what they sound like. Is this like the plait/braid thing?

If they are fringes, then somepeople need them, some people want them and some people hate them. I get so annoyed by people who say what we want, and tell us that any other thought is wrong and unfashionable. I'd like to tell these editors where to stick their poxy articles! Sorry to any editors reading this.

Who are they to call people's hair boring, anyway? Half the time these people have awful hair that is as plain and non-descript as it gets. I would be offended if someone I knew called my hair boring, a why should an expert be any different. Looks like we need to campaign for a change of the Human Rights laws : People should have a right to wear their hair in whatever style they want to.

Who's with me?

Hmmm, the one jaw lenghthed?? jeez, I dunno what I'd call those, perhaps bangs but if they're just little tendrils... But bangs are defined as an area of hair hanging over the forehead cut shorter than the rest of the hair. And yes, it's US for fringe.
