'k Mom just sent me a package from the Body Shop of wooden comb and a curious brush I've never seen before. Brush is unvarnished wood and the bristle, well they aren't really bristles, but are tiny wooden dowels. They aren't flattened at the ends (that's good) and I don't think it'll catch hair at the base which is one of those padded rubber squooshy things. Have you guys ever used a brush like this? I currently have a Boar bristle, and love it, but I just want to make sure I won't hurt my hair if I use this ever.

What to do? hmm... It was a gift from your Mom, so you don't want to seem ungrateful... and you already like the brush you have been using... maybe you could try it out sometime, on hair that is already thoroughly detangled, and see how it handles your hair. If it doesn't "work" in the best of circumstances (hair already fully detangled), then don't use it. And if that's the case, you don't have to tell her you don't use it or like it.
I believe in going with what works, and not messing with success.
I use that very same brush and I love it! Can´t use natural boar bristles because of allergy, so I can´t say if it´s better or worse than the one you have, but it´s the best one I´ve tried.
