I want to tell you guys this; it's such a cute story. I was on a bus on an out of state field trip with my eighth-graders (Yeah, long day!). You know how eighth-grade girls are about their hair, especially when they're going someplace and there's a dance coming up! So there they were, on the bus, braiding each other's hair. It was so much fun to watch, and a couple of them said to me, "Why don't you ever wear your hair completely down?" and "We could braid yours!" I declined because I was afraid they'd spray me down with that can of shimmery hairspray, but it was sweet of them, especially since my hair's been feeling awkward lately. Don't you wish some adults were as supportive and sincere when it comes to hair?

my stepdaughter LOVE to play with my hair. she likes to braid it. i draw the line when she wants to brush it. i don't brush my hair. i comb it. plus she is rough! i tell her go brush daddy's hair now
My husband's boss's daughters love to brush my hair. I let them play with it, and they always put some goofy clippies in it. I always brush it out first, so tha tway the majority of the tangles are gone. It always looks funny afterwards, but they had fun with it, and I LOVE to have my hair brushed.

I take it you're a teacher 3katz? What subject? My sister teaches 9th grade science in California.

I sure your hair is very lonely but...did I miss something? They ask you why you never wore your hair down? and then wanted to braid it? Where is the compliment? If someone said to me, Why are you wearing that dress? Here you should wear this one! I would not take that in a good way....

i think that is rude for you to say. it made jean happy. didn't she mention she she has been feeling awkward about her hair? i'm not jean [3katz] so only jean can speak for her self. i'm sure the girls said it with excitment and maybe it made jen feel good because they didn't look at her as ''old''. not that jean is old but to teenagers 20 is old. mny youngest cousin is 17 and when she was 14 she thought 30 was old. i would say hey watch it i'm going to be 30 sooon LOL!

Well, I thought it was a cute story! Thanks for sharing that Jean. I think it was awesome for the kids to say that.
And about 30 being old...when I was 30, I looked older (not that that really matters, but I was going through a period of major hair loss), felt older and was more worried about my age than I am now at 37.
It's strange how perceptions change as you age. Not only do you gain wisdom that only comes with life experience, but you become much happier in your own skin (at least for me). I wouldn't go back to 30 if you paid me! I will say I've met a lot of young people who are wise beyond their years, but for myself, I am just feeling so much better and looking forward to 40!

I imagined the scene as you described it, and I would call it complimentary in the sense that the girls' wanted to express to you their enthusiasm for the braiding potential of your hair. Unlike the questionable poster, who has drawn a poor analogy...

that must have been quite fun! I think children's hands feel so cute when playing with your hair.
I also love when my boyfriend brushes my hair, even if it comes out really fluffy and odd afterwards. It's just the fun of being cared for and getting the nice massage.
I definately think it was a compliment! They were includeing you (their elder) as one of them and they liked your hair enough to suggest you wear it down and to want to braid it. Dont listen to the ???

That story's really sweet. It's nice when anyone compliments you, but young people seem much more genuine - the younger they are the more honest they are, because they don't worry about hurting people's feelings. In school, some of the new Year 7s (who're 11) have been really complimentary even though they're total strangers. It's kind of weird though, because I've never experienced people being so nice about my hair! Don't compliments make a nice change from "you'd look so nice if you cut your hair." Oh, gee. Thanks a lot!
