Out of curiosity, do any women (real women, not trolls), read the personals ads? Would any of you actually write to any of the men who post ads? (depending, of course, upon the content of the ad) ;-)What would be the criteria? Would you write to someone looking for a "soulmate?" Would anyone actually respond to a self-proclaimed "fetishist?" Would any women actually be open to photography, and, if so, would it have to be on a "professional" basis?I've put three or four ads out over the past couple of years, but have had only one respondant. (That could be partly because I've specified my Calif/Bay Area region.)Any comments or insights into this?Thanks!--Bruce

Hi Bruce.Yes, I usually go check out the personals board once every week or two. There is usually little of interest to me. Most of the ads are very short and don't describe the writer much at all.I've only responded to one of the ads. However, I now consider him to be a very good friend. Unfortunately he lives a couple thousand miles away. So I've only gotten to see him in person three or four times over the past year and a half since we started writing. It will probably be quite some time before we get to visit again. But we do still write several times a week and usually call each other on the weekends.> What would be the criteria? Would you write to someone> looking for a "soulmate?" Would anyone> actually respond to a self-proclaimed> "fetishist?" Would any women actually be> open to photography, and, if so, would it have to be> on a "professional" basis?Hmm.... good questions. I responed to the one add because it sounded interesting. It was a no pressure, looking for friends or maybe eventually more, kind of add. He told more about himself than just his interest in long hair. I wrote becuase I was intrigued by what he said. It turns out that we have a major hobby in common and share several interests.I don't know about the other women here, but I would only respond to someone that I'm interested in getting to know as a person, someone who's looking for a real friend. I'm not at all interested in writing or seeing someone who's just interested in my hair. I've had someone in real life obsess over it, and it was scary, not fun. Now, on the other hand, if I meet someone, get to know them, like them, and become good friends, it's totally okay to have a slight "fetish" regarding hair. In other words, it's cool if my friends like and enjoy my hair, but the idea of someone being interested in me just, or primarily, for my hair really bothers me.Well, I hope this offers a little insight, at least into one of the readers of the ads.Teresa

Hi Bruce,No offence, but I would have to be quite desperate to turn to personals to find someone. There are plenty of interesting people around that you can get to know personally. To be honest, I'd be scared to have a relationship with someone I met through personals or even through the net.I have never posted or responded to a personal ad - not even browsed, except on occasion out of curiosity. That's just my personal opinion, I am not judging people who respond or post personals - we live in free country and some people feel comfortable with it. I don't.

Hi Bruce, Teresa, et al.I read the personals here from time to time, but I agree with Teresa; I would never write to someone who was only interested in me for my hair. In fact, it really bothers me when people try to start up conversations with me online and start out with "do you have a photo?" I like computer penpals and would have no problem sharing a photo with someone I had written to a bit, but if you want to judge someone by appearance why not pick them up in a bar?On the other hand, if someone had concerns like we discuss here---pressure to cut their hair, being stereotyped for a certain hair colour or style---it might be fun to chat with them. Or if someone wanted to learn new braids or something---that can be fun to share. And maybe I might respond to someone who shared more about themselves than their hair preferences---I have many good friends with similar interests AND similar hair.Just my two cents.Kim
