Hi everyone! I used to have long hair (almost long enough to tuck in the back of my pants) but when I got pregnant with my first baby, I had to get it cut short (below shoulders) because I kept getting awful headaches due to the weight of my hair. Do any of you expirience headaches? I would LOVE to grow my hair long again (it is now between my shoulder blades) but I don not want to deal with the headaches. BTW, my hair is thick and slightly coarse...
Thanks!

Hi FlyBabyTina, welcome to the board!

My hair is very long and has been for years... about 5 years ago I started to get headaches (at the time my hair was about as long as yours was) and I wondered if they were caused by the length of my hair. But I was also under a lot of stress at the time, and not in top physical shape. So I found ways to reduce the stress and started exercising (and stretching my neck muscles). Headaches disappeared pronto!

I firmly believe that that headaches are not caused by the length or weight of hair; I believe there are other causes (stress, weak neck muscles, less-than-optimal diet, hairstyle, etc.).

Hope this helps you to avoid getting headaches as your hair grows longer.

Thanks! I am glad (and sad) to hear that it probably wasn't the weight of my hair. Glad because now I know that I can grow it out again and most likely not have headaches. Sad because it makes me think just how long my hair would be now..... (My DD will be 8 in August... 8 more years of length...WOW)

Hi, Ive not gotten headachs from the weight of my hair although i have gotten them from wearing my hair in a tight bun. I think if you didnt have heachachs untill you were pregnant then you shouldnt have them now with long hair (unless you get pregnant again). I think pregnacy causes aches and pains and sensitivity to things that normaly arent a problem.

Grow your hair =)

Hi,
I 'm afraid that your headaches were caused by the pregnancy. I feel so sorry that you cut your long hair. My hair is over 40" and this never caused headaches although I do agree with Erinhynn that tight buns may cause problems. Hope your hair will grow long again!

Tina, headaches caused by pregnancy are fairly common and there's a chance that it was the pg'cy causing the headaches and not your hair.

Good luck with your hair growth goals!
