when my hair is long enough (not now though) i have waves on the sides and back, but nothing on top. could this be because of my hair type? cuz i don really think it has to do with brushing

1st off and for most: When did you start waves? 3 weeks ago? Best if you could answer this question? Like 2months ago, ect.

Yo twist i started my waves 3 weeks ago and i got waves on the top and sides. Theres a little on the back it still needs work. I just kept brushing my hair alot and using a du rag and they just popped up. I brush my hair for 10 min instead of 5 or 7.
