agar agar is the name for the 'fake' gelatine. It's used in the UK for
jelly etc and there is no difference in taste. I'm assuming Jell O is
merely a brand name for normal jelly.

There's more than one kind of fake gelatin, I think. As far as I know, the Japanese kind isn't agar agar, but I could be wrong. (And yes, Jell-O is a brand name of gelatin dessert in the US.)
Gelatin's good for your diet in general. Good for nails, hair, joints, and God knows what else.
