QuoteReplyTopic: To cut or not to cut.... Posted: January 19 2005 at 6:59pm
Ok, I have been debating on cutting my hair for some time now. I love short hair but feel that for some reason it won't look good on me. I have really thick wavy hair so I don't want a puff ball on top of my head if I do cut it. I need some advise from those with short hair as to what type of cut you think would best suite my face and hair. Thanks in advance to those who take the time to care. :) Here are some pics of me, tell me what you think will look good on me.
Hello Daneila. You are a very pretty lady. Actually your attractive features are ideal for a short hairdo. Don't worry about hair thickness, professional beauticians know how to thin and/or layer any thickness of hair in a short style. A short bob hairstyle would look great on you. So would a short Alyssa Milano type of pixie cut. You are pretty like she is. Give a short hairdo a try and let us know about it.
Best wishes.

Well, it looks like most of the wave is on the ends, so maybe it won't affect the style much, if it's short enough? Have you had it shorter before, and if so, how did the waves act then?

I'm a short hair lover but I wouldn't go pixie short. Personally, I don't think you have the right features for that. You definately could go shorter. I think around chin length would be good. Probably would loosen the curl up - adding body. I would also think about more of a side part. In the pic it looks mainly in the middle. Side parts are more flattering for your facial features. How about some longish side swept bangs. I think they would really frame your pretty eyes. Is that guy you are with squatting or are you Amazon size? (Ha Ha)

I have had my hair about chin length, but it was pretty much a blunt cut not many layers at all, so it was somewhat like a lamp shade. I think if it is layered correctly that it will look good, but my hair can react weird sometimes....I guess I will go a little at a time. Thanks so much for your advise.

Thanks for the advise, yeah I don't think I am ready for a pixie...maybe when I am older. I will probably just cut a little at a time until I reach my desired length.
and yes my friend is kneeling, he says I am a midget ha!

If your hair isn't curly, it's unlikely to puff up if it's short. Many younger women find a chin length blunt cut without layers to be a helmet head haircut, so it's not surprising you didn't like it.
Look at the shorter cuts Julia Stiles, Reese Witherspoon (from "Sweet Home Alabama"), Mandy Moore, Samaire Armstrong (Anna on "The OC"), Ashley Scott, and Ashley Judd have had. They may be what you're looking for.
Don't go pixie short unless you're certain that's what you want. As you say, you can always go shorter. A cut like that is only for women who know that's what they want.
Something with a little length could be pretty good for you, since then you could play up the curl with rollers or an iron, or press it straight, if you wanted. But definitely layers would be a good idea, to help avoid the giant, puffy, bell-shaped hair all the girls had when I was in junior high :-P . Bleh, dating myself there :-P .

they are right. Only go for a pixie if that is what you absolutely want. IMO it couldn't be the regular pixie either as it wouldn't flatter your face that much.
If I understand you correctly, you're thinking about chinlength bob's and such. Just go stand before a mirror and tuck the long hair in a turtle neck sweater. Then you get a pretty good idea how it would look without having it cut. If my instincts are right, a one length bob wouldn't match. Adding layers may help to improve the look, but I'd advise a shorter style. Definetely with side partings and very light and soft bangs.
Let us know what you decide ... lots of fun with the new style!

Thanks so much everyone! I think I found what I want...still have some length and nice layers to break up the thickness. My Sister and I are going together sometime next week or so. :)
That cut is very cute and choppy. I'm sure it will look good on you. But don't bring that pic (or at least only that pic) with you to the stylist. Since she's bending over, it's difficult to tell Mandy's hair length. The length you think it is and the length the stylist thinks it is may be two different lengths. You need proper communication. Find more pictures of Mandy (or any other cut) that you like and bring them.

Make sure YOU really want it cut, Daniela. In my opinion, your hair looks outstanding. It can't hurt to make small changes first, possibly even streaking or coloring. I am very partial to long locks on most women, so my advice is served with a smattering of prejudice! (lol) Bob
Daniela: Don't let Bob dissuade you from trying an attractive short hairstyle. You would look sensational in a short hairdo!
The purpose of this board, by the way, is to appreciate ladies in short hairstyles and to discuss short hairstyles, not to convince women from cutting their hair. We have the long hair board for those who are into long hair on women.

I agree with Brent. I think the extent of Bob's post which should be acceptable here would be " It can't hurt to make small changes first, possibly even streaking or coloring" and maybe also the "Make sure YOU really want it cut, Daniela" comment... but the rest is not appropriate on this board. Bob, please try harder to conform to the spirit of this board.

Personally, I really like it in the third picture where you are with the midget =D Seriously, it looks great now, but if you want to try something shorter, I think you would look just as incredible with the cut that you posted of Mandy Moore. Be sure to share pics with us and let us know how things went :)
Well I know Dave how much you don't like it when people go on the long hair board and encourage someone to get a short hairstyle, I learned my lesson about that one, HaHa! I guess the same is true here in a different way. If a lovely lady on the short hair board wants to try a short hairstyle, we don't need to discourage her.
