QuoteReplyTopic: I dyed,I relaxed,I bleached,I permed,then I cut ... Posted: September 30 2004 at 6:13am
Its really a long story...a really horrible one...so brace yourselves... It all started when I used to dye my hair black,I stayed that way for two years, till I missed my brown hair. The problem was, black dye just didnt go away, whatever I did.I bleached it,then I dyed It,I didnt like the results,I bleached it again, then I dyed it.I left the color for a few months, where I permed it once and relaxed it twice. Then suddenly,I wanted a light brown color. The problem? The black dye hadent really faded.I bleached it,then I bleached it again,I didnt like the color,so I dyed it,then after a few hours,I decided the color was too dark,so I dyed it again,it came out black(thats all in one day). The next day,I couldnt stand the black hair,so I dyed it w/ a semipermanent color,it turned out red, after a few hours I had bleached it again(thats also in one day).I slept in half orange/half black hair, the next day,I bleached my whole hair and dyed it.I kept the color for about to weeks, then dyed it a little darker, suddenly I wanted it a little lighter,so I used sun in.I kept my hair that way for over a month, then decided I wanted it darker.I dyed it again, and after a week I had an appointment to have YUKO.The hairdresser took one look at my hair & said that there was no way she would do anything w/ my hair.Instead of being grateful I still had hair,I got angry and decided to relax my hair bymyself instead.I went home and did a strand test first.Stupidley,I did the test on the front part of my hair, after a few mins I saw that my hair was turning orange...I decided to test another strand, which also turned orange.Suddenly,my hair just didnt feel like hair anymore, when I pulled it ,it broke of as easily as when you cut paper,I just dont know how to describe it.At last I was scared, that was the first time I got scared about my hair.I washed it & tried to blow dry it,it looked terrible, then I just had this urge to cut it all off.I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut of all the front part of my hair. When I looked in the mirror,I had short spiky hair in front, and long frizzy hair in the back. Then I had to go get all my hair cut,I had never had hair that short before, but it was still longer than my hair now,I stayed that way for a month, till I just couldnt stand the way the damaged parts of my hair looked like,I grabbed the scissors and chopped all my hair off,and I mean ALL,my hair is even shorter than my fathere's,AND I HATE HAVING SHORT HAIR.I put oil on it almost everyday now,and the only thing Im happy about is that now all the damaged hair is gone, and my natural soft, dark brown hair is back. Its been almost 3 weeks since I cut it now,and I just cant wait till it grows, does anyone know how long would it take to be at least chin length? And is there anything I can do to make it grow faster?Thnx
Bad Hair? No, bad owner of hair. After all of that abuse, I don''t blame your hair for just giving in and breaking off. Hair grows about 1/2 inch per month. If you have it cut like aboy''s right now...probably 1/2 to 3/4 inches long all around? It should take somewhere around 6 or 7 months to get it to an almost chin length bob. The back will be longer if you don''t cut it at all.
Eat lots of healthy fruits and veffies as well as lean meats. TRy to reduce stresss in your life and if you want to make a change in your hair, think hard on it first before you put the chemicals in.
Yeah, I would reccomend a closer look at processing your hair that much aswell. I kept my hair blue/black for the longest time and when I went to change it I took the simple step of lightening it VERY gradually, like, a year! at least! and even then I didn't lighten it that much. And also, despite the whole trending "what's in" thing people are going through right now, brunettes ROCK! I wouldn't change you're hair too much from the nice cozy comfy brown color, because naturally brown haired people look best with naturally brown hair...at least that's what I've come to believe.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can't change, the courage to change the things I can't accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

The reason for bleaching it and dying it all over again was that instead of becoming better,it would become worse,I had a certain color in mind, and then it would be totally different than what I expected...Now the problem is that Im addicted to changing my hair, esp my hair color. There were times when everyone said my hair looked fabulous, and I'd think how even better it would look w/ highlits or s/thing,and I end up w/ terrible results(esp that I do all the work bymyself) Im also wondering, since I cut my hair bymyself, some parts are longer than others.I mean,if it grows out,it will be short and shorter and shorter all on top of each other...does anyone know what I mean?Does that mean I'll also need to cut it again if it grows out to even it?Thnx
If you don't want uneven hair that grows out layered, then you could let all your hair get at least chin length or shoulder and then get it cut straight all around. The longer you wait though, the more you will lose or the more that will appear to have been lost in the back.
But that is up to you. You have plenty of time to think about that though.
Right now concentrate on healthy hair rather than fast growth.
First, I feel very badly for you. Had you been my wife, I''d have hoped you not go this extreme, but what's done is done. All is not lost, believe me! Your present length is near my wife's starting point in 1998. Ironically, I just saw my dental hygienist today. She had grown her gorgeous waves (which she first chopped off two years ago!) to her shoulders, and had planned to grow it all back near her waist. Hovever, she decided to to "relax" the curls, wound up with fried hair, is furious at her stylist and herself, and now has a chin length bob. Of course I didn''t say this, but the hair that remains is only a fraction as lovely as it was six months ago. The moral? With the exception of careful coloring, nature does it best in most cases. All the best in re-growing. Look at your hair as a lifelong project, and love what you have now as best you can. Hugs, Bob P.S. The quickest way to regrowing beautiful tresses is to avoid salons and don''t even think of picking up scissors, let alone running with them! PPS. I'd only trim at the very bottom until it evens up. Forget about trimming the short pieces on top. Use mousse for now.

I'm only surprised it didn't totally break off much sooner, after all that abuse.
I never color my hair, and it's quite healthy, and some people tell me it's fabulous. I firmly believe that hair is never in better condition after coloring it. The only reason it may appear to be so is the intensive conditioners used as the last step in the procedure. I say, use the intensive conditioners (which you can purchase by themselves) and skip the dye.

Well, I think you say it best yourself. Your problem isn´t the hair, it´s the behavior. Ask yourself, when do you look fabulous enough? As PurpleBubba said, you have some time on your hands to think about it.
I wish you and your hair all the best in the future!

Hi bad hair, I can fully relate to your hair horror story. I must say you have really abused your locks and probably cutting everything off was the best thing you could have done. There honestly is nothing that can make your hair grow faster...no miracle pill or shampoo...no magical brush or hat. You have to be patient and just let your hair grow at it's own natural rate. If your really depressed about your hair being so short maybe you would like to invest in a nice long wig. Lastly...learn from your mistakes and promise yourself never to repeat them again. DaveDecker and Viktoria are great motivators...I'am sure that if you need them they will help you. Best of Luck to you!

Thank you for your kinds words about my motivating effect. I'm not so sure that's been the case with our friend with "bad hair." I should clarify that people have told me that the condition of my hair is "fabulous." I know it is quite flawed, yet I do the best I can, considering all the factors that affect its condition. Most factors can be controlled, so having healthy hair is largely a matter of personal control.
"bad hair", keep in mind that anything is possible. I started many years ago with almost no hair... just take good care of what grows, and you too can have the hair of your dreams.
