Hi there! My name's Dominette and I'm 16. I have dark brown hair that's about mid-back that I'm absolutely sick of. I've worn it this long for about five years now, and I'm pretty desperate to change it. I've been thinking about cutting it short and changing the color as well. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm about 5'5 and kind of skinny, to give you some idea. And by the way, what kind of hair do you guys out there like?
I think you'd look good with your hair cut lip-length with layers; especially since you're thin. It will be a change for you (Though I don't know how drastic you were planning on going...). And I think highlights would be a good idea, instead of all-over colour. They are somewhat easier to grow out, because the roots aren't all that obvious, and you won't have to worry about your hair colour not matching your eyebrows...unless you want to tint them... but then you'd be committed to constantly touching up your hair. So, short, stylish hair with highlights; that's my suggestion =) Best Wishes, Catriona

I am a guy and I love girls with bob styles from chin length to just below the ears like mine. I have my hair cut in a layered bob below my ears with bangs and I think it's great. Pretty much low maintenance and versatile with movement. I say pretty low maintenance because my hair is naturally very wavy so I have to blow it straight every morining. I also agree that highlights would probably be a lot easier to deal with.

I agree with Catriona. My opinion of short hair is, Great!! of course it depends upon face shape, but I do not like super short styles that are cut square. I do like anything from chin length to pixies. As far as the color goes, if you go very short you can play with the color more drastically.(it won't take as long to grow out if you don't like it) also being shorter and keeping it trimed it does not take the abuse that longer hair does so it remains in better condition. Otherwise highlights are always a good option. Keep us posted!! Brian
Ok, I've made my decision. I have an appointment for a haircut tomorrow, but I haven't decided on an exact style yet. I'm having a consultation with the stylist to help me, but I'm sure I'm going to cut it pretty short, at least to chin length. Thanks for your advice, everybody. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!

You asked what guys like. Different guys like different kinds of hair. Some like it long -it's not just a stereotype that guys like long hair, but not all do. Others like bobs and some guys even like girls with buzzcuts (though not many do). So however you wear it, you are likely to attract some guys and repel others. If you ask me, I really like long straight hair on girls, and for some, I think, the longer it grows, the better. Catherine Zeta Jones (she's gorgeous, isn't she) used to have real long hair, but I guess Sean Connery didn't like that. But I think that is the ideal kind of hair for that kind of female - thick dark hair. However, this may not be for all girls. As far as short hair is concerned, I like blunt bobs. The way you described yourself, I think you should go for the simple look and just have a bob cut straight about jaw length or shorter, with maybe a (DISCRETE) wedge left on the neck. Don't get layers cut. I know it's in style, but I think a blunter cut is better, more feminine (this includes it when the hair is cut so the ends slightly curl under).
Whatever you do, DON'T change the color of your hair. Again, tons of people are doing it, but you shouldn't have to "conform". Highlights look messy and cheap, and give the impression that you're not sattisfied with your natyural self. Blonde streaks look good usually only on real trendy girls with straight dark brown hair
