Has anyone had their hair professionally straightened? I am interested in getting this done, and I would like to know:
-the process
-the results
-if you wash your hair, brush it, and let it air dry, will it automatically dry straight and non-frizzy?
-how much did it cost
-how long did it take

I probably won`t get a responce, but thanks :)

I`ve had my hair straightened at a salon with Rusk AntiCurl for almost a year (once the whole head, then touch-ups at the roots). AntiCurl isn`t as harsh as the relaxers for ethnic hair are, so it won`t sting your scalp or cause breakage. It also comes in three formulas, depending on your hair: One for hair that has had no chemical processes, such as coloring, one for hair that has been colored or chemically treated, and one for extremely coarse hair. The process consists of two major steps: First, the stylist will apply the AntiCurl to your hair, and let it process for awhile. The time varies, depending on how curly hair hair is. For me, it takes about a half-hour. The solution is then rinsed out with plain water (conditioner can be used to detangle if necessary). Second, the stylist will apply a neutralizer to your hair to seal the hair shaft and finalize the process. This should be left on the hair for about 15-20 minutes if I remember correctly. Finally, the neutralizer is rinsed out with water, and conditioner is probably used to detangle. For me, the entire thing takes about an hour-hour and a half, including blow-dry time. My hair isn`t very long though, so it would probably be longer for someone with long hair. Oh, this is very important-- you cannot shampoo your hair for at least 48 hours after you get AntiCurl done-- the shampoo reacts with the solutions still in your hair and can reactivate the chemical process. It`s the same concept as when you get a perm and can`t shampoo for a couple of days. You can rinse your hair with water and condition it, but don`t shampoo.
The very first time I had the process done, I was very pleased with the results. Unfortunately, my hair was not completely straight, but it was smoother, less frizzy, and a lot easier to blow-dry and style straight. I also noticed it was more resistant to humidity, which was great. So no, it doesn`t dry straight and smooth, but I honestly don`t know if there`s a product that awesome out there (at least not yet). However, it helps a heck of a lot, and I`m glad my stylist mentioned Rusk AntiCurl to me. The only drawbacks are that my hair doesn`t have as much body, and that, since I color my hair as well, it is more damaged due to the two chemical processes.
Cost of the procedure is about $50 each time where I get it done; I`m sure it`s more some places, or less at others. Not every salon does AntiCurl, but they have the ability to order it if they don`t normally carry the product.
I hope this helped you out; sorry it was so long! Good luck with your hair straightening plight- I know how you feel.
