Before I start, I know nearly nothing about hair, ok?

Here are some pictures of Matt Bellamy of the band Muse and some of his many hair styles/colours:

How does he get his hair THAT red? some of my friends have died their hair but it doesn`t come out that bright, it just looks like their normal hair colour with a coloured tint. It would be great if I could get my hair as bright but blue instead of red. Can you suggest anything?

And also how does he get his hair in those styles? It doesn`t look like gel to me. And where would I buy that?

Sorry if my questions are a little stupid but I don`t know much about hair.

Hey, Ian, it`s okay, you don`t sound stupid. The best way to ever get a really bright color is to bleach first. If you`ve never bleached before, here are some guidelines (from experience), do not use 40 vol. bleach quite yet. It will bleach a lot quicker than you want it to.
As a general rule, this is how you go about doing that: For light brown hair, go with 20 vol. bleach
for dark brown hair, go with 30 vol. bleach
and black, go for 40 vol. bleach, but unless you want it to go out of control, don`t use 40 vol. quite yet. 30 vol. works just as fine. Always start an inch and a half or so from the roots, then when the rest is a couple of shades darker than you want it, then do the roots. the whole process time takes about 60-90 minutes. Never attempt any longer than that, it will damage your hair from the point of no return.

I hope this helps. Manic Panic is supposed to be really good.

I meant Manic Panic would be good as a bright color to try with. Not for bleach.
