My daughter dyed her hair a few nights ago. She had her girlfriend do it for her.. the girlfriend had never done this before to anyone else. Needless to say.. my daughter hates the outcome. Her girlfriend did not get it all even in color.. some has turned out almost a burgandy color. Her roots are almost her natural color.. some of the back underneath is streaked with her natural color. Her intentions at first were to get a bright red. Now she wants to try to get her hair back to its natural color.. She does not want to have to cut any length off. Her normal color is a honey wheat color with red highlights. (Noreen and Laura Jane.. I tried talking her into the Aveda color shampoo's with no avail!!!) Any suggestions? I am afraid she will turn out with freaky color hair if she does anything this soon. She tried to find some prell in the store today but couldn't... We need some feedback asap.. ThanksCher~
OH, NO!!!Ok, what type of dye did she use? How long was it left on? Has she tried washing it yet (normally it's not a good idea to do it too soon, but in this case it might help, depending on the dye)? Has she done anything to it at all since it was colored? In a crisis, a really good professional may be able to do a lot to help. Two days before my wedding, my sister (who was my bridesmaid) had her hair dyed. It came out *ORANGE* rather than the golden-blonde she wanted, and she was wearing a pale lavendar dress. She called my parents in a panic that night, and they called me. They were flying down the next morning, so we got her an appointment in the afternoon. The timing was terrible - she was late to the rehearsal - but they did a good job and she came out looking normal, although the color was a little bit darker than her original goal. She looked just fine for the wedding.Good luck, whatever you decide to try.Laura Janelswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

And she haswashed it 4 times already trying to get it to fade. ( I toldher not to dye it!!!) She left it on for 20 minutes but theproblem was the friend didn't get the color distributedevenly. Now she has burgandy with her natural colorstreaked.. My daughter is wondering if she uses Natural Instincts which is a semi.. and try to match her naturalcolor if it would go freaky on her??? Cher~
> She says she used Feria by Loreal. And she has> washed it 4 times already trying to get it to fade.Ouch! Usually reds fade more easily than other colors, but never when you *want* them to.> (I told her not to dye it!!!)Maybe she will learn something from this? (Even if it's only "make sure the color is distributed evenly", that's something!)> She left it on for 20 minutes but the> problem was the friend didn't get the color> distributed evenly. Now she has burgandy with her natural > color streaked..I had a similar problem the first time I tried to dye my hair, some years ago. It wasn't as drastic - I used the least permanent semi I could find (the kind that washes out in a week or so), and it was closer to my natural color, but the streaks were there.> My daughter is wondering if she uses> Natural Instincts which is a semi.. and try to match> her natural color if it would go freaky on her???That's a difficult one. I suspect the red would show through at least somewhat, even if nothing else went wrong. When I got sick of coloring my hair, and the ends hadn't completely faded (in spite of using a semi in the first place), I tried to color over it in a semi about the same as my natural shade. There was still a border between the slightly-red and the not-red, although it wasn't too obvious.I'm not sure what would happen if she tried to cover it so soon, though. If nothing else, some intensive conditioning will probably be necessary before trying to color again. I'd definitely recommend asking someone with a little more experience before trying that.Good luck!Laura Janelswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

In which case you *should* be able to get most of it out. Stop trying to search down Prell and go to a beauty supply and get some Metalex (I think it's by Clairol). Unfortunately while it's an excellent stripper it is kinda damaging (I use it on my asian-american boyfriend to make his hair more porus before bleaching)... so you're going to want to make sure you condition a LOT after using it.I wouldn't suggest using Natural Instincts on top of the current mess... once a darker color is deposited on the hair shaft you have to either remove it (stripper) or lift it (peroxide based bleach)... you're way better off doing the former. Putting a lighter semi-permanant color over a darker color won't do anything, except possibly make it all look muddier. Also you may not want to do it immediately because the color may fade some or change slightly over the next week or 2. I'd try stripping it, deep conditioning it, then waiting a few weeks till her hair "settles down" and then seeing what kind of color correction is needed. Good luck.If it helps I had some MAJOR dye disasters when I was a teenager... including a professional colorist who left me with hair streaked lavendar and grey. :-p-JJ

Yes.. Feria is permanent color. Latest update: We went to Walmart and bought another brand of dye... a light brown and redid her hair. It took out all the burgandy color and left her with a natural looking red. Alas.. she is happy.whew.. thanks for all the feedback.. Cher~
Really? A _30%_ developer? That's pretty harsh for something that's supposed to be a gentler dye. I'm surprised. For comparison, most dye's you buy at the supermarket have a 20 volume developer. I've only used 30 or 40 volume developer for bleach jobs that require a lot of lightening.-jj
solution to hair color crisis. 1) DO NOT START POURING COLOR AFTER COLOR UPON YOUR HAIR TO FIX IT! 2) If you can afford to , find a good stylist/colorist to color-correct the problem, 3) If you have to fix it yourself the metalax mentioned in the previous message will remove the permanent pigment that has been deposited. But, it will do little or nothing to the hair that has been lightened or "lifted" by the developer(peroxide/ammonia) that was part of the pemanent color. To strip the color like this is hard on your hair(very drying). An intensive reconditioning program should begin immediatly after using the de-colorizing agent. Redken "extreme" conditioner and Joico "k-pak" are two of the best on the market.(Available only at better salons). mix these with equal parts of Redken "PPT" and leave on for 30 mins. do this several times over a two week period. Then you can use a semi-permanent color orcolor gloss such as Redken "shades" Professional only in about 2-3 shades lighter than her natural color, in an 'ash' variety. carefully monitor the timing of the new color because it will 'grab' much quicker than on virgin hair and will 'go darker' than the level shown because of the more porus nature of the hair. Do the color on freashly shampooed and dried hair. It may take more than 1 kit of color depending upon the amount of hair that she has. Do not condition the hair heavily just before coloring. Good luck william
