Last year I moved into a house with well water. The water was hard, so we put in a water softner. I color my hair about every 6 weeks at the hair stylist. The top layers of my hair have become extremely dry and the color won't last on these layers. Suggestions????
I was waiting to see if anyone else would respond to this first. I am familiar with water damage and the softener systems etc but I am not familiar with why a well or softener system would prevent color from sticking to your hair. I have heard of well water preventing perms from taking. I will address what I know of the dryness tho. When we first moved into our home I experienced severe water damage/dryness. We had a water conditioner installed in our home. But I was still experiencing side effects with my hair. It was very frustrating. We had a filter system installed also. But again.. the top layers of my hair were very vulnerable. I finally ran into a stylist who was knowledgeable about well water/water damage in general. She informed me that tho we had the conditioner/filter sytem that it may not be grabbing all the minerals out of the water. I called my company back that installed our conditioner and we took some more water tests. They adjusted the system to flush 3 times a week. I then called another company to do a free test on the water to get another opinion. They suggested we use the pellets for iron and also use filters designed for iron. The stylist main suggestion which helped me alot was to use a jug or two of distilled water as a final rinse which I have been doing since last Feb/March. It has made the biggest difference in my hair. I buy them at Walmart for 58cents a jug. I keep them stocked up in my dressingroom closet. And I won't wash my hair without one. With that and using quality products I can say I am over all water damage now. My hair is silky soft. With a goal of knee length ahead of me, I am doing whatever I can to baby my hair. I am also thinking of adding a showerhead filter in my bathroom. Iron is orange and that way I could see if we are getting most of the iron out by checking the showerhead filters. I hope some of this maybe of some help to you.. water damage is awful. I know.. best regards.. CherLast year I moved into a house with well water. The> water was hard, so we put in a water softner.
