I need some advise. I have thin, stright hair that usually has a perm in it for a bit of curl. My perm is almost grown out, so my hair is half straight again and the ends are starting to split. Anyone know of a good body building shampoo/conditioner...store brand. I know I should buy the professional products, but I can't afford them all the time. I was using Panteen ProV, until someone(hair stylist) told me it made your hair fall out(???) Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.

Hmmmm..Well I recommend you try Nature's Gate Keratin Shampoo. You get get it at any health food store. This shampoo is loaded with protien which strengthens your hair and adds body by thickening the hairshaft. You might also like Freeman Botanicals Cherry Humectant conditioner. You can find it at most stores like WalMart. This is kinda the cheapie version of Aveda's Cherry Bark. It add lots of moisture and help bodify and encourages curl. This duo should work well together. They Nature's gate is like $5 but it lasts a really long time so it's economical. The freeman is like $2 and I really like both products. Good luck!Keth'ryn

Even tho my hair is on the thick, wavy side I use it and love it. It makes your hair feel fuller...try the matching shampoo/conditioner together. Cher~

Anyone have any suggestions for me?> Thanks. It sounds like you're worried as much about damage (split ends) as about body... in which case I'd suggest trying Aubrey Organics GPB deep conditioner (you can find it at health food stores). BTW: I like natures gate as well... but the GPB is the best reconstructor I've found. It's kinda heavy though and may weigh down your hair a bit, so you might not want to use it more than occasionally. The pantene won't make your hair fall out, but it may well be contributing to split ends... and depending on which formula may also be un-perming your hair a bit because the silicons make your hair straighter.-jennifer j

Cher~I'm sick and tired of being duped by marketing hype of many "professional salon lines" Nice to see people can come here and exchange their personal finds. In regards the original concern posted by Keth'ryn about her hair problem, I would like to put my 2 cents in. You problem may not be entirely cured by any product. Reason bieng, conflict of textures when there is resistant virgin roots and textured ends. This common condition often makes hair look more damaged than it really is. I would suggest bodifying type products to help keep volume for fine limp hair and at same time, a little reconstructive type product for ends that have texture (remaining perm) also, I would highly reccomend finding a way to blend the two textures of hair together ie. a bit of highlight or permanant color to give body to virgin root area, or maybe one of the "retexturizing" treatments to take the curl out of the ends. Re-perming or perming the regrowth also works well
