I straighten my hair every 2 days with Conair's straightening iron. I was worried that this might be harming my hair, so I posted a question about it. Ghettofab told me that eventually this would totally wreck my hair. That shocked me, but I was definitely glad to find out before it was too late. I think that really sucks that they can even sell a product that does that.Ghettofab suggested that blow-drying my hair straight would be a much better alternative. But that always seemed like such a hassle, and I thought that it ruined your hair just as much. Does anyone know if blowdrying every 2 days will dry out your hair? Or, does anyone have any more insight regarding regular usage of Conair's straightening iron?

A straightening iron, curling iron, the dreaded blow-dryer, an old-fashioned hair dryer, they will all cause some damage.I don't blow dry my hair at all or use a curling iron. My hair is relatively straight. I like the waves, personally. I can't always air dry which is best. I sit under a hair dryer and use a hair dryer protector solution as the last step before rolling and sitting under the dryer.I think the idea is to try to minimize the damage.Bye for now,Jade21

>Have any of you guys heard of the new Conair straightner that straightens with steam. I'm assuming it's much like the Caruso Molecular hair setter and will do very little damage to the hair. Does anyone have experience with it? Does is straighten very wavy hair well? Will your hair hold the set?AlsoI don't know how anyone thinks using a blow dryer on your hair is better than using a conair straightening iron. Any type of dry heat is terrible for your hair! At least you can apply a heat activated conditioner (a light oil maybe?) to the hair before you run the iron through it. Hot air just dries it out!
Hi,Well the bad news is that whenever you use any type of heated styling tool....whether it be a blow dryer or a Conair straightening iron...you do risk heat damage to your hair. I know this is not great news. It was one of the first things I had to deal with when I decided to grow out my hair.My stylist explained in detail how the heat can dry out and damage the hair and made me promise to cut back using any type of heating tools to 1-3x a week. I got used to not using any and now I never blow dry my hair, except on rare exceptions. In the beginning of going "cold turkey" from my blow dryer I decided to try and find alternative solutions. My stylist told me that if I absolutely had to use the heating tools that I should use a good "leave in" conditioner that would coat the hair shaft and make sure the heat damage was limited as much as possible.I decided to use Aveda's Elixer and it did seem to steam a lot of the dryness and crunchiness that would happen after I would blow dry.I think the bottom line on whether to use your Conair or not depends on your hair goals. If you are trying to grow your hair longer...it may not be the best solution. However, if you get your hair trimmed on a regular basis and can contain any dryness or end damage with regular trims and possibly some deep conditioning treatments...that is the way to go.If you are planning on growing your hair longer or trying to get it healthier...then you need to consider cutting back on the Conair.Hope that helps. I know it can be tough sometimes to give up the heating tools...I had a really tough time myself. I can tell you that it made a BIG difference in my hair.Best wishes,Karen> I straighten my hair every 2 days with Conair's> straightening iron. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)

Karyn:I have been using the ConAir straight styles since December on my chin length hair, mostly to straighten sides and bangs. I thought the steam would help. I don't use it everyday, maybe just two or three times a week. Sometimes I let my hair airdry, sometimes I blow dry. Sometimes I airdry and then use the straight styles on my bangs only. I haven't seen any damage yet, but I am trying to be super careful.Laura
