QuoteReplyTopic: What color should I use? Posted: January 12 2000 at 5:11am
I have colored my hair several times and now it has turnedreddish brown. I am trying for light brown with no red but all of the at-home colors I have done test strands of either don't change at all or get even redder. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks! My suggestion is to see a colorist. I dont think any at home color will give the results you want. All depending on how red your hair is you may have to lift the red out with a color remover and tint it back. It is a tricky process so don't attempt it at home! Going to the salon will save you from any mishaps that may damage your hair.Good Luck! Red is difficult to get rid of, but a professional colorist will get you the results you want!FRAN

Thanks!Sounds like you have a lot of natural red in your hair. You have to use an ash color for example: light ash brown. You can also use a product by L'oreal called Drapper for dark tinted shades. You use it with permanent haircolor. It's used to soften excess red or gold tones. I think I bought mine at a super Wal-mart. It works pretty good. Red is really hard to work with. You might want to go to a professional if you've done a lot of coloring to your hair, it may be damaged. GOOD LUCK ~ k
