I recently dyed my hair copper with a semi-permenant, level 2 hair color. It barely showed up in my medium-brown hair. I am very disappointed and I want to dye my hair again with a deeper red. Will this be okay, or will my hair end up a mud puddle?
If you really want the copper to show up in your medium brown hair you'll probably have to use a permanent coppery color that's one to two shades lighter than your natural brown. A tip, the darker the red, the more likely it is to be on the burgundy side, which is OK if you want a cool tone, but otherwise, no. To warm up a burgundy tone you have to add some gold to it. My two cents - wait a bit, shampoo a lot over the next 3-4 weeks, and then try a new color. But don't try to go darker - it could get muddy or burgundy-ish, as I mentioned above.
You can't effectively lighten your medium brown hair to copper with a semi permanent color. If at all possible, please consider going to the salon for permanent hair coloring to copper, or copper highlights. It's very difficult to get just the right shade, and risky to mess with the permanent colors at home.
Please let us know what you decide and how it turns out.
