Good question: It's a source of neverending debate. Traditionally, "Remy" was meant to mean that the hair is raw, virgin, and all comes from one donor, but it rarely actually means this anymore. These days, it's used pretty liberally to describe a "grade" of hair--meaning, theoretically, that it's good quality. Some companies actually call their hair "Remi" (with an "i"), which can be misleading, and because of the nature of the human-hair trade, it can be very hard to know what you're getting. The word "Remy" can be used to describe Asian or Indian hair.

Imo, the "Remy" label means very little these days, so you have to do a lot of research on each brand of hair (and unfortunately, trial and error) to know what you're getting. It's quite infuriating, of course, but there are really no rules or regulations when it comes to this stuff.

Here's a thread for more info. on the meaning: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB%5FAP934431446&id=1350
