Here it goes...

Got my Bliss hair in the mail and decided to try it out since it is better than what I have now. The hair is very dark dark dark brown in the sun so I had to find a way to lighten it to my color. Went to Sally Beauty Supply and picked up some High Lift Color. How did I know what color? I took my own hair and put it against all of the color samples - found a color and hoped for the best. It was a gift from God that the color came out perfect because usually I screw things up.

The Bliss hair has this Funky smelling oily stuff on it so I washed the hair before I colored it. After the washing I was a bit surprised to find out I had three different types of Bliss hair. One is nappy frizzy dry stuff and totally unusable, one was a body wave but very dry and one long weft was a beautiful body wave and very soft. Note to self - NEVER ORDER FROM BLISS AGAIN because they seem to send you whatever they want to.

Thought I would still try the hair and picked the best out of the bunch to put onto my hair on Saturday. I went in at 9am to have braided tracks with wefts sewn onto them. Here is a picture of my hair before extensions.

Had my extensions put in and it took alittle over an hour.

As you can clearly see the extensions look like ***T because the bottom part is more curly than my hair. They hair was also a tangled mess by the end of the day. The braids were BURNING and ITCHING my head and by 10 pm I came to my husband and said, "Guess what honey, can you take these braids out of my head!!! My wonderful husband did. It lands up that the braider but some Yacky crap into the braids so my braids were thicker. I guess I am allergic to Yak because when the braids were taken out my skin was red and swollen. Here is a picture of the braiding...

OK, Now I have all of this hair and would like to use it somehow. Took out my sewing box and started sewing my own Clip-on weft to wear. I picked out all of the best pieces to use and I am quite happy to say I really like my extensions now Here is a picture of MY creation of Kim.

Here is some pictures of the weft I made

My Overall review of Bliss is - IT SUCKS!!! The hair is not that great overall. Out of 5 ounces of hair that was sent to me only 2 of it is decent. Most of the hair has horrible split ends, the hair does tangle, most is on the dry side and I think that oily crappy smelling stuff is to cover the flaws in the hair. As you know from my previous posts the customer service is the pits since they only like to send you what they want to. The 2 ounces of hair that I am using is wearing well and is soft and shiny (not as shiny as mine but presentable). If Bliss could send ALL the hair this way I would give a better review of them. I ordered alot of hair and I want ALL of my hair to be the same - is that too much to ask?

Another entry has been made in the Kim hair diaries. Why do I do this to myself?

Oh, Kim. It sucks that they didn't send you what you ordered; I know Bliss isn't cheap either. Sending three kinds of hair is simply ridiculous. Can you send back the batches you didn't use and get a refund for those at least?

Your real hair is gorgeous, by the way. It looks like you did a great job making those clips, but your hair looks just as good without the clips in it, frankly.

Do you really think you were allergic to the yaki hair they added to your tracks? I assume it's yaki synthetic, and I think you've worn synth before, right? Maybe those braids were just too tight?

Seriously--when you have beautiful hair with a gorgeous texture to begin with, it's hard to find hair that's good enough to match it. I have crappy hair, so anything I add to it is going to help, but your case seems tricky to me. If you want to go longer than the Bliss clips, or install actual tracks, maybe synth would be a better option; I don't know.

Thanks for chronicling all of this for us.

:)

Hi Jenny,

I dyed all of the hair so I don't think Bliss would take it back. The piece that I am wearing right now is very nice and I would be very pleased with Bliss if all the hair was like this. It is very hard to tell when it is first sent because all the hair looked the same. I really swear that oil stuff is a cover up because on the bill it says that you can not return it unless it is in original condition. That weird oily stuff that smells like "Indian Oil" as Amm put it most likely is for Bliss to still reconize their product if it is sent back. That Saran wrap is to keep the smell strong. Never worn Synth. hair before, got a sample of the plastik hair but the color was off and you can not dye it. I am allergic to many animals so you think I was allergic to the yak? Anyway braiding is not for me.

I think the yaki hair that's used for extensions is not from the actual yak animal. It's usually a name given to describe a texture that's designed to simulate "ethnic" hair. Usually when hair is added to tracks to add bulk, it's synth, not human. Either way, I would seriously doubt that it's animal hair.

Lots of people cannot deal with having tracks in their hair; it's just too much for their scalp to deal with. Perhaps this was the case with you. Usually those braids are super-tight, and they take a bit of time to loosen up.

That sucks that you can't return the other batches. And the oily coating is curious, too. At least you got a good clip out of it, but I dread to think how much the entire order cost you.

:)

Jenny,

Yakkety Yak {don't come back} hehehehehe

Forgot to thank you for the really nice things you said about my hair. I am very blessed with thick hair and I love my waves. My hair does take a long time to grow though and I want it very long - like - NOW!!!

I believe my order was $220.00 plus shipping.

Hey Kimberly,
Jenny's right your own hair is beautiful.
With your type of hair you only need one or 2 rows of tracks. Why'd she use so many?

Emma, I love my hair now too!

Srr, thanks and I am not sure why I had so many braids.

Kristen, thank you . I am wearing one weft that weighs 1.2 ounces. The one that is pictured is the only one on my head.

Seriously, though: Your natural hair is supernice, with a distinct texture, and sometimes I think that makes it harder to find a good match. That one Bliss weft looks good in it, but the rest of the hair was useless to you.

In fact, I haven't seen a human-hair extensions wave that comes close to your texture after washing, honestly. A lot of the ones I've seen are more like S-waves, whereas yours are more natural-looking loose curls. For someone like you, I almost wonder if it makes sense to perm silky straight hair to match. (Disclaimer: This may be a very bad idea; I dont know....). :)

Kimbearly,

You went to town with that color. You did an excellent job with matching your own color. Your color is hot.

Your stylist used the wrong method to put in your tracks. She should have blended the tracks with your hair. I don't know why she braided up all of your hair in the back but she should have done like two or three tracks and left your real hair out.

Your real hair is beautiful to be honest, I don't really see the need for a weave, Give it another year and your real hair will be the length of the weave. Whatever you do, don't ever use methods like Great Lengths or microlinks in your hair or your beautiful mane will thin out.

Your clips are absolutely beatiful. That's one of the best blending jobs I've seen. That's how your stylist should have sewn your tracks in, just a few.

But you did a wonderful job.

You might want to look into using Bohyme the next time, it's much cheaper and I think you can get the look your looking for with Bohymes Virgin Body or Body wave.

Thank you Afropuffs. I am not sure either why I had so many braids put in. Why did she put them on the very bottom of my head too? If was my first time and I trusted that she knew what she was doing - guess not. Either way the braids were very annoying - YUCK! With the bohyme hair; how long does it last? Does it tangle throughout the day?

I agree, Kimbearly, the coloring job you did is AWESOME! I have to say, I'm impressed how you did the clip-ons. They look great! I'm so sorry the Bliss hair didn't work out for you. I had been contemplating using them now I'm glad I decided to go for the Boyhme instead.

I'm kinda new to the boards (been lurking awhile) and you guys have been a great source of info. I'm getting a track weave with Boyhme 14" deep wave hair on Saturday and I can't wait!

I've probably heard the fewest complaints about Bohyme. I bought the saharian smooth and loved it. Bohyme is my choice for straight or wavy hair and Naturegirl for curly hair.

CaliforniaKristin is a bohyme user and really likes it. And a few others use it also.

It didn't tangle excessively for me, it stayed straight and had a really good bounce and swing to it. I notice that when it does start to tangle that means I need to wash it.

There's plenty of threads on Bohyme hair here. There was a debate on whether it's remi hair or not because it's advertised as remi... but nonetheless I wouldn't hesistate to use Bohyme again.

When you want your tracks to stay in a little longer you should try experimenting with braiding in a few tiny cornrows and sewing your weft onto the cornrow. I know you don't like braids but you only need like two or three and very tiny ones.

AfroPuffs is totally right, the braids aren't done the best way...you should have had 4-6 braids all over your head, not just on the bottom! You can tell (in the photo where you have the hair weaved in) that they're extensions, because the bottom part is so oddly blunt against the rest of your hair, whereas your clip-ins looks awesome (good job, by the way!) because, I'm guessing, you have the tracks clipped in at various places all over your head.

I'm not sure you were allergic the either the braids or the hair- it's uncommon to be actually allergic to synthetic hair- but very tight braids can cause itching and burning similar to an allergic-reaction feeling. Usually it's a minor and brief irritant for the first few days (whenever I do regular braids, I tell my clients "No matter how bad the itch is, leave it in for at least three days- it'll go away!") But if the braids are too tight- and weavers are notorious for really pulling the hair tighter than they need to- then the itching and scalp stress will be even worse. If you try a sewn weave again, definitely go to a different stylist!

It's also disappointing to hear about your experience with Bliss- I was thinking about ordering from them some day, but after hearing bad reviews from you and others, I think I'll spare myself the misery. But on the bright side, your clip-ins look absolutely beautiful- if I saw you on the street, I wouldn't guess they were extensions at all. And like everyone else said, your texture and color are gorgeous!

I think my next purchase will be the Bohyme. I am noticing so many split ends with the Bliss hair which is totally uncalled for being how much they charge for it.

Rae, I actually only have one weft on my head. I layered the weft myself so it will blend in.
