I really need an opinion!

Hello everyone, I needs some peoples opinion. I have long brown hair that is slightly wavy, very thick, and is down to my shoulder blades. My hair is in good health, I have had no chemicals put in my hair so there is no damage to my hair. Lately, I am very interested in my perming my hair. However, I am afraid that with my hair being so thick a perm may fry my hair or it would look like I have a poodle on my head. Is there a certain perm you proffesionals out there would recommend. Another thing is that I have heard of a 7 day perm. How much does it cost to get a 7 day perm at a salon? I would much rather try to see what my hair looks like with a 7 day perm. Than have a bad regular perm and live with it for at least 6 months.
