QuoteReplyTopic: How to make my hair behave like white hair Posted: November 06 2004 at 9:31pm
I'm african american and I have been very depressed lately because most of my friends are caucasian (white) and they have long, flowing hair, I was just wondering if anyone knew how I could make my hair behave like that. . . I have a perm, but my hair still wont behave like theirs. . . please tell me anything you know. . . thanks.

When I told my white friends that I envied them for their swinging hair, I was shocked to find that most of them HATED THEIR HAIR!
If you're really determined to make your hair lie as flat as possible, buy a professional flat iron (Folica.com has a great selection) and take good care of your hair so that it can be as healthy as possible, but until you love your hair, it won't love you, and you'll be envying someone's hair all of the time until you start.
And incidentally, while you're concerned over your friends' hair, I guarantee you someone that you don't even know about is jealous of yours. Seriously.
Make every day you have count, before the time comes for you to count every day you have.
Unfortunately for you, you will never have the same texture of hair as your Caucasian friends but do not let that get you down. Be blessed with what you have and wear your hair with pride. Embrace your ethnics. A perm is the only thing I can recommend but even with that, be careful and take good care of your hair. You have to realize that your friends’ hair texture is a lot different from yours and it has to be taken care of differently from yours as well. Look on the bright side, you don't have to worry about lice.

You have been misinformed...black people can get lice as well. That is a myth, the more stuff you put in your hair the more lice will not like your hair.
yep, wat they said. like, i envy my white friend's hair all the time. its soooo long and flowing and silkey. but guess who gets the most compliments on their hair...ME! even though I hate my hair everyone wants mine cuz its "thick", i can supposedly do "anything" with it and whenever i style it it just "stays" there. now i dont exactly agree but hey, they can think watever they want to think. so i stilll do want long silkey hair but im just gonna deal with wat i got.
and if u want straighter hair save ur money and get a chi.

you know, I used john frieda relax. that's the company that has a line of products for specific hair colors and types. I didn't invest in the conditioner but I bought everything else except the wave maker. It's a pretty good product, just expensive. The scalp moisturizer is a really good product, but there's a tiny amount in the $7 container. I found it at Walgreens in Wisconsin, but it's disappeared now. You can check online though. And it did make my hair lighter and fluffier, but it wasn't as oily as hair grease. good luck.
Friends help you move. Real friends help you move the body.
Get a grip, you are a beautiful black women and you have hair that is black texture and you need to love what God gave you, If you want your hair to grow long loc it up, it will free you from all feelings of wanting white hair because let me tell you it isn't going to happen

You are african american.caucasian girls hate their hair and it is so limp and bodyless unlike our hair.our hair can be long and straight but better thicker, shiner with a lye relaxer .I love my african american relaxed hair althrough i don't depend on my tub of relaxer.
Try Phytospecific relaxer. I just used it to touch-up my roots today and it was straigth without blow drying. My hair looks really weird now because the roots are straight and the ends are poofy and frizzy.

Look, you, chill. I think that most black women go through that stage at some point in their lives. The issue is how to get over it as quickly as possible and love your own hair, and calling names is hardly productive.

haha. Well I was already relaxing my hair I might as well have got it done right. I like my natural hair I'm just super tenderheaded and have the most hair out of anyone I've ever met so it's hard to keep looking nice. The only way I can take care of my own hair is to relax it. But I do plan on stopping in like 6-9 months. And then I will have cute short natural hair and then it will grow out and I will be in pain again. and why am I the only sellout and not relaxedhairchica?

I don't think he was calling you a sellout because you weren't the originial post.
@ Layla when you were natural did you brush/comb your hair when it was dry? Were you using a wide tooth comb or not?
Since I went natural I comb/brush my hair when wet (not dripping wet) or moisturized and also I use a wide tooth comb. My head hasn't hurt since I started doing that.
Oh, I know he wasn't talking to me...but it's rude all the same. The original poster obviously has a few issues with self-esteem...calling her a sellout isn't the way to help.
