Be honest. This could get ugly.

For me, it's not too bad. Seventy bucks for a killer pair of Bleyers spectator shoes. They're the authority on swing dance shoes and for awhile I was hardcore and could therefore justify the cost. What about everyone else?

I guess it would be (oh no, I am showing my age) $80.00 for a pair of ReeBok pumps in 1990.

Do you remember these? You squeezed the tougue of the shoe and pumped air into the supported areas of the sneaker.

Obviously none of you live in the Northeast.

But actually, my most expensive shoes I bought in Indiana. They're a $135 pair of John Fluevogs. So worth it though! I wear them all the time in the winter.

I'm buying a pair of Cydwoks though I tell you! Soon! Then I'll be up to $198. But I don't feel bad about it. I imagine I will have them for 5 years or more. How else can you make $200 last so long and get so much wear/use out it? I could spend $200 on a nice blazer that I only wear 3 times a year.

My Fluevogs are 4 years old and they still look great. If you take care of good shoes, they'll last a long time.

And now that I think about it, the Birkenstocks that I'm having to retire were about $130, also. But I've gotten a ton of wear out of them. I'm sure they'd still be in fine shape if I hadn't been dumb and let them get sopping wet so many times. Worth the price!

As a matter of fact, I thnk if I were wiser I would buy fewer pairs of $20 and $30 shoes and save that money to buy a couple good pairs of more expensive shoes. Cheaper shoes tend to be painful and don't hold up as well.

Lyris I'm so jealous you can swing dance. I have taken lessons here and there, but I am too tall. I really want to Lindy, but that would require a guy who can pick up and toss around a 5' 11" girl.

Do shipping and handling and customs taxes count?

The boots were $145 - black leather riding type boots - excellent quality leather, very well made, classic design, etc.

With shipping and so on, ( to Germany where I was at the time) $ about $200 - $225 US.

SG - I totally agree - take care of quality shoes, and they'll last years. I have worn these boots 6 months of the year for the past 3 years- a totally worthy investment!

Ciao!

me too!

Yes, they sell Jimmy Choos and Manalo Blahnick right here in my town and yes they sell all kinds of other very expensive shoes here. I just choose not to pay alot for my shoes. My $10-$50 pairs of shoes work for me just great!!

$450. Ridiculous? yes. On the positive side, they fit and look *perfect* on me! Personally, I'd rather have just a few pair of well-fitting shoes than dozens of pairs of cheap, but ill-fitting shoes.

That isn't to say that cheap shoes look cheap or don't fit well! But, unfortunately, I am not one who can wear cheap shoes.

OMG, I could never even allow myself to try on such an expensive pair of shoes for fear of liking them! :) I'm even shying away from those $200 Cydwoqs that I like.

The danger for me is that spending so much on one pair of shoes opens a gate for the future. Then I think I would think nothing of buying a pair of shoes that was "only $100!" and that would get dangerous.

Although on the other hand, I have spent almost $400 on a formal gown that I've only worn twice. I'm sure I'd get more wear out of the shoes...

But still. I don't really have the money to spend right now, so it's a moot point.

I don't spend that much for any one pair but I tend to be a compulsive shoe buyer. I never seem to be able to buy just one pair. If I find a pair that feels really comfortable I will tend to buy 2-3 pairs so that when I run out of one pair I have an exact duplicate. I do that with jeans and tops too. I read somewhere that many in the fashion know will buy everything in multiples in case they can't ever find it again. Works for me.

I have a $150 pair of Romu sandals. Not only were they expensive, but rather silly, as they're basically glorified Birkenstocks. The footbed's black suede and the straps are black alligator skin with gold glitter. As tacky as they sound, trust me, they're even worse. My mom bought them for me; she and I both share shoe addictions and go shopping together alot.

I'd never heard of Romu, had to look 'em up.

I was thinking that they would be good for summer, without being typical looking. The fact that I never wore them much says differently.
