hey all I have a problem with coloring my hair... I want a rich dark auburn color and I naturally have dark blonde. I have been trying to reach this color for 3 years now(ughhh) and have tried every box coloring system and salon color and nothing has worked, even permanent. My hair is now medium brown with red roots, and it looks awful. No permanent color works on my hair it just stays the same color. Is there a product that can get most of the color I have put in my hair so I can try to dye it again with better results? I have probably put in at least 20 permanent auburn colors(this is terrible =P) attempting to get it the right color and nothing has worked. what do u suggest? Any advice would be appreciated. =)

The problem is that you're not supposed to redye your whole head when your roots grow in. You're only supposed to touch up the roots themselves. Dyeing repeatedly makes your hair porous, which will prevent it from holding color properly.
But at the same time, redyeing adds layers of color that get darker and darker, so your roots end up lighter.
If you have money, you should go to a salon to get this fixed, then touch up properly from now on.
An option is to try to remove the old dye, using Colorfix, then treat the hair with a protein filler (both available at Sally Beauty) before coloring. I would suggest you get a demipermanent haircolor while you're there, and a couple of tint brushes to help you with touching up your roots.
I couldn't guess how well this is going to work for you, so I definitely recommend a strand test.
A lot of dark blondes have luck with red henna, but it only works on virgin hair, so don't try it unless you grow out the lightened part.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

hey I just bought a box of colorfix and on the back it says "do not use over henna, or gradual color restorers containing metallic salts. To do so may cause discoloration or breakage." How do I know if I have henna or w/e else may cause alot of damage when I attempt the colorfix? Doesnt red hair dye usually have henna? if it does do u recommend still using it? You also suggested the use of red henna. If colorfix doesnt work well w/ henna would u still recommend this as well? sorry 4 all the questions, just making sure I dont end up in worse shape or even bald .

Did you buy henna, or was it regular dye? Henna in your hair won't cause damage when you apply colorfix, it may just turn a very strange and brilliant color.
Did you use Feria? That is the brand that probably contains metallic salts. Colorfix won't remove metallic salt dyes.

Reread my post. I suggested you use henna on virgin hair, when you again have healthy virgin hair, not as a follow-up to a failed colorfix experiment. Henna should never be used on previously lightened or colortreated hair, unless you want to chance bizarre and brilliant permanent colors.
You'll get more complete advice if you limit your questions to one thread per topic, rather than posting parts of it all over the boards.

ok, sorry Im just in a panic so Im not reading that clearly.. YES I just used Feria YESTERDAY.. what do I do?? Im soo mad right now (of course at myself) it seems to me that Im hopeless unless I just shave all of my hair off and start over. I dont know what 2 do honestly. Sorry if Im being a pest

Right now you learn to live with it. The only way to get out Feria is with bleach, and your hair probably can't survive this. I suggest a consultation with a colorist who specializes in fixing mistakes. They may not be able to get your hair to where you want it, and you may need to compromise with a color that looks natural and is not unattractive.
Get a price, and price out some wigs to compare.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

20 permanent dyes is a lot to do to your hair especially if you did a whole head process instead of roots only application.
Maybe you should leave your hair alone for awhile to avoid any more damage. Use strong conditioners like Neutrogena Triple Creams/conditioners.
It is frustrating not to get the color you want, BUT in the future, after two DIY (do it yourself) dyes you should go to a professional before you do anything else.
Also, if you would have done strand tests, you would have seen that the dye is not taking. I know it's a pain to take the time to do a strand test, but well worth it in the long run.
Let us know what you decide to do.
