QuoteReplyTopic: Hair loss/damage after coloring/bleaching Posted: July 02 2005 at 10:56pm
Before last Christmas I chopped off about a foot of my hair and dyed it
black and pink, a couple months later I lightened/bleached it and dyed
it blue, and then a couple months later(again) I renewed the
blue.
After I dyed my hair the first time(though in years past I've dyed it
natural shades, but for arguement's sake lets say the pink/black was
the first time) I started loosing hair but it really got bad after I
lightened it and dyed it blue, then I stopped loosing as much and then
it started again with the renewing it blue and instead of slowing, the
hair loss is staying the same. This really really worries
me(esspecially since I may need to bleach/color it again before mid
September) and I don't know if I should just hold off on that next
coloring or if I should just go for it and after that hope for the best
and avoid coloring it for a while?
Also I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to treat the damage already done?
I really appreciate any help anyone can offer, thank you so much.

Hair loss is hair falling out at the root. When this is a real problem, you can see thinning, allover or in sections, or bald patches with little or no hair. This is not caused by hair color or bleaching.
Is this what you're experiencing? If so, you should go to a dermatologist to get it checked out.
If what you mean by "hair loss" is breakage and other such damage, then you probably do need to bleach less often or not at all, as this is a sign that your hair can't handle the chemicals.
Condition, condition, condition. Do a minimum of heat-styling, and work some jojoba through your hair when it feels dry.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

In that case it probably is just breakage. Its only been bleached once but I suppose I'll take that a lesson learned.
