hey there! sorry to bother everyone with this but i was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a 'how-to' so i can do the black/brown underlay thing avril had a while ago! basically this is my hair http://doo-das.com/assets/images/ext2.jpg - it's actually a little longer and i've never dyed my hair so i'd love to try something different! thanks so much in advance!

Wow ur hair is amazing the way it is naturally! But if u really wanna do the underlayer dark then stick to using a semi. Or why not have lowlights of brown put in instead? Putting dark colors on such light hair is a big commitment, u have deal w/ fading and choosing the right shade to make sure no strange colors show up!

If u don't wanna go to a pro then i think normally pple part their lower half of the hair using the tail end of a coloring brush and clip up the rest of the hair, altho i'm not experienced in that as i've never tried it. Also, i think u might have to dye it more than once w/ the semi. Trust me, if u use a permanent, esp in black it will stick on ur hair forever! lol. Which is why i recommend a semi/demi...u can buy it from sally's.

Also if i'm not mistaken ur hair is nat. ash based so u prob wanna look for neutral browns. Clairol complements has a demi line that is sold at sally's.

I'm sorry i couldn't be of much help as i've never tried this...

lol, wow! thank you so much for the help! i wasn't sure if anyone was going to reply but i thought i'd give it a try! unfortunately, i live in canada, so i'm not sure if there is a sally's here, but i'm definately going to check! i just need a change- i'm starting university this year and i've never dyed my hair, or even had a major hair cut since i was in gr.8! i'm certainly going to try the semi- 1st! a) because if i don't like what i do to it, it will wash out b) because i don't trust myself! lol! i'd love to go to the salon but right now, i don't have the $$, but i will certainly take your suggestion to heart! i'm up for anything at this point so thank you so much for taking the time to reply!! i really appreciate it!!
