Has anybody gone from long to short in one sitting? I am thinking about it. I know once I cut it short it is all gone. Has anybody donated their hair to the Lock of Love? I am still in the deciding on cutting it short but how short. My hair is close to my butt.I feel I need a change in my life. I am starting with my hair.

Don't cut your hair because somebody else is urging you to do so - even if the reason seems to be "for a 'good' cause."  Wear your hair as you like it.

What are you unhappy about?  Cutting your hair is super simple to do -- it's no challenge -- but what will it do for you besides making it shorter?  Changing other things which *make* you unhappy (perhaps your job, or boyfriend, or physical condition) will probably have a much more powerful impact on your state of mind.

Why did you have to post two topics?

Don't cut your hair just because you need a change in your life. Too many girls with hair your length cut it just for the sake of it. If you really want to try something different, and feel the thrill aswell as ending up with a finished product you KNOW you'll like, then do it. It seems you have no idea what you want, you just feel the need to make "Changes".

Keep your hair, it's not something that needs to change. Very few people have hair like yours, you'll only look more common if you cut it.

I've done the long to short thing just two times - once from waist length to a shorter layered bob, once from BSL to lip length.   Oh my word, the regret I felt only as it had just become to late  to change  anything.  Both were  following traumatic events, i.e.  the first  was after my father's death, the second after breaking up with my s/o.

Please  take it from someone who has spent many, many years doing the 'cut it short' thing everytime a major life event occurs -- you will do yourself NO favors.  Cut it because you're ready for a change, you no longer enjoy caring for it,  it's too hard for you to maintain - but  not just to make a change.  You don't seem very convinced to cut it, just to make  changes - as Dave said, it's very simple.  However you could lose 10 plus inches of hair easily, but it won't  have any effect on the other  elements of your life that still need work.

Also, do a search through the forums about Locks of Love..  They are not the greatest company on earth, that's for sure.

I decided I will go gradulately  go short. I talk to a friend of my mom's who is a hair dresser for  a long time. I haven't talk to her in a very long time .    She call my mom and my mom told her I wanted to cut my butt length hair and how I was nervous. She ask her If she have any suggestion. She suggested that I cut it a least a half of and inch to a inch at first.  So I am going to cut atleast a half of an inch off.

If you want to cut it cut it.  Many women cut or dramaticly change their hair as a starting point for change in their lives.  Some are glad they did it some are not. If you want to cut all at once, do it.  If not.. do a little at a time.  What ever makes you happy!!!!!!!

I went from BSLish to supershort twice in my life. Didn´t regret it at all - but I´m not prone to regretting things, and it´s only hair, after all. But hair is not so "only" to everybody - some women feel that hair is a huge part of who they are. It sounds like you have found a sensivite stylist that listens to you, which is a blessing. Go easy and remember that it grows every day, but slowly. Do what your heart tells you, not your friends or family.
The more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

She posted two differing topics. One to gather the opinions of anyone who had gone through such a dramatic cut, and one expressing her nervousness. Consider the fact that different people responded to the different posts as well.

Similar posts are not a bad thing unless they are contaminating instead of contributing to the boards.

Ragdoll,

When I was younger, I strolled into a salon with hair I could sit on, and had it cut short, thinking I wanted something new, different.

Now while your experience may be different, mine was spent crying. I even woke the next morning feeling my hair to make sure it was just a bad dream, but nope. I was then chained to daily styling. It took me forever to get ready, my 'feathers' were never right, I had more bad hair days than I can remember, but the deed was done.

Just my experience. I wish you well no matter what you decide.

My advice, however, would be to try new styles, new hair accessories, etc. before a cut. If you decide by gosh and by golly to cut, try cutting just a bit rather than a dramatic cut, then go from there.

Karen Marie

Seeing mutliple posts on your topic suggests that you are serious, yet apprehesive about doing the big cut.

Do you have a specific short hair style you really want or are you just doing this for change with no thought to a style?  Have you tried different short styles out digitally - via a computer program or salon aid to see what suits you the best?  Try a short wig out and see if you like it?

Are you prepared for a lot more upkeep?  Shorter styles do require more styling and more frequent trims than longer ones.

Am not dissuading you, but consider all of these before you do the big cut.

after taking everybody suggestion in consideration I decide to cut my hair. The only question that that kept coming up from everybody is do I no longer enjoy caring for it.I went to the hairdresser yesterday and made the cut.The answer to the question was i no longer enjoy caring for it. I had made a dramatic cut. My hair was butt length and now it is  a chin length curly bob. I know that if i let it grow long it will take a long time to grow it back to wheree I had it. I have no regrets in cutting it short. I know I will have to do more upkeep on it now but it will be the same amount of upkeep on because my hair is so thick that I have to go to the hairdresser every 6 weeks anyways.

Thank you for all the suggestions I really appriecation them.

Well, I suppose. It sounds a little unreal that you think your long hair required as much upkeep as short hair will. For me it's hard to imagine what you could have been doing that took so much of your time, because my long hair takes hardly any upkeep at all.

And when you were going to the salon every six weeks, what did you have done to your long hair, just curious...

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

I'm glad you're happy with your new style. There are all different phases in our lives. Some of these phases involve changing our appearance in some way in order to feel different inside. That's okay. I've gone through that before. I'm 38 years old and I'll probably go through it again! It is all correct and good...there's a time for everything. You now have super-healthy hair, so if you do eventually decide you'd like it long again, it will have a great starting point. Hope you enjoy your new style!

Merely six hours later, you post that you just had it trimmed.

So, which is it?  A chop or a trim?

Hello all,

Debbie, I read it the same way, that she was answering eKatherine's post, though with the rash of trolls and but ten posts from ragdoll, I understand how the confusion came into play.
