coloring my curls, HELP

Help! my roots need done so bad but im scared to death!! a lady did it last year, i thought she knew what she was doing but didnt, she bleached and it was horrible!! now its healthier but looks bad and is making my face look bad  but im freaked about doing it again, I need to go lighter w/out drying   any info would be wonderfull before I make the big jump. heres my drivers licens pic, its pretty much the same now only not quite as healthy  on the top.

Your hair color looks good, just add some highlights to the roots and it should be pretty.
