I just got some gorgeous hair to put in as I have fairly short hair and am SO sick of it. It's taking forever to grow.
I'm very nervous about doing the back and may just do the sides and wait until my friend comes visiting on the weekend to do the back. LOL OR I have the option of going to where I work and a friend of mine is working nights who has never done extensions before either but she may be able to part my hair in the same way as I did the sides and do it if I direct her up until putting it on my head.
I had a bad experience with getting a bond job done before that cost me $400 and he just glued the entire track all the way around my head without cutting it into sections and it was drooping in a week.
Here is my new hair:
Going to wash my hair several times now and make sure it's blown straight down.

Hmm so they arent susposed to glue the wefts all the way around your head??
I just had my first experience FRIDAY getting my extensions in and Im worried already! She glued 5 wefts all the way around my head 5 layers and I already took the bottom weft out because it was uncomfortable and in my opinion too far down on the back of my neck. I feel MUCH better with it off. Now the other 4 are still holding strong and tight BUT my hair is really frizzy and wirery! Hmmm Im wondering if its the hair brand and quality OR if it was the way she installed it. What color is that hair in the pic? I used a 1b/27 I think its off black with strawberry blonde piano effect but it didnt give me the look I really was going for which was black with alot of chunky blonde streaks.

I'm very new to this myself but the girl who helped me in the store told me she does them for a friend of hers and cuts them into just the section you want to do, like the back part or the sides so you essentially cut them into three sections, one for each side and then the back so they aren't too heavy and don't start to slip on you.
One of the most important things to pay attention to when getting hair extensions is the quality of the hair. There are many types of hair on the market with a wide range of prices. Quality hair will last you 5+ months of constant use. Some times you may have a great bond holding your hair on but if the hair isn't good your overall experiece won't be good.
I have seen wefts applied from temple to temple and I have also seen them applied in smaller sectioins. I think it's more of a preference rather than 'right or wrong way'. I have heard that the sandwich method works great for glued in wefts (edited-- see the link Emily provided below for Sherri's directions to her sandwich method) Wefts simply glued on to your scalp don't seem to have a good track record for lasting long- maybe a couple of weeks so I've heard.
Ajslady: It's common to have a friend help you with the back. Just give her some good directions and show her the ones you did and she should pick it up quickly.
BabyGurlz: If you like the idea of wefts try the sewn in ones. They'll last you about 2 months and reuse the hair for future installs with no mess form glue. You may also want to try getting clip-ins or a strand-by-strand method. Better yet try doing your hair yourself, you'll save a ton of $
Sad to say this is about the same quality job I paid $400 for a couple of years ago. HA This is nowhere near as good as what some of you girls are capable of doing but this is my very first time trying extensions. I mostly wanted them to hide my very short hair while it grows out.
From the back:
The front:
I wonder if I don't need to put more in though I don't know where I would put anymore. I have 6 or 7 rows in back and 3 on each side. The pale blonde is on top and the bottom two rows on the sides are the streaked. My hair is super thin on top and so I had to tease and pull a Donald Trump combover to get it to look that good. LOL

I always glue the tracks all the way around my head, becuase the ends always come loose first and that way there are less ends to do maintainance on. I only do the top row in smaller pieces. I haven't heard of the sandwiching method Kristin described, but I have used Sherrie's sandwich method ( http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=29371 &PN=1). However, I find it a bit difficult to DIY the sandwich bit, and find that it lasts just as long if I only sandwich the ends. For me they last 4 weeks with LG.
Could you maybe do some streaks on top to match the longer hair? The color looks like it matches in the back, but the front streaks are chunkier. I think if you did a chunky stripe in front, it would help blend the color.
Your hair texture looks a little coarser than the hair that you used. I think it will match better after you wash the extension hair a couple times. You could also try flat ironing and glossing your own hair.

Yes, I thought about getting some stuff to do streaks at Sally's today when I go in search of white or clear glue or something. I wasn't able to do the sandwiching method which sounds so cool, especially on top where my hair is so very thin, because the only glue they had at Sally's was black which is SO not fun to try to do without boogering it up too bad on blonde hair. I also wonder if I streak it with pale blonde on top if it won't hide the tracks up top better as well. Do you think?
I did the back completely blind. I used a hand mirror and turned around to clip it up to find the part and then just felt my way around with the hair once I got the glue on. I would love to try the Shrinkies one day but the one place that has something similar (I don't know what they're called. She said it was hair with rings already on the ends and you just put them on and clamp them down.) wanted $100 for a bag of hair. I paid $9.50 a bag for that I put in from Sally's. It may not last but a couple of weeks but I decided if I was just going to play at first and not sure of what I was doing this would be best. Overall, I'm pleased with the way it turned out though the top bothers me a bit because I can see the track up there even if it is pretty well disguised in my hair.
I would also try to blend the sides of the extension hair, use a razor or the very tip of your sissors and just slide them down. You will create some very nice layers and it won't be such a dramatic step from your hair to the extension hair.
But the install looks good!!, becarefull coloring and rinse really good, some people have fried thier hair because some of the bleach got stuck in the bonds and just ate thru thier own hair.

Thanks for all the tips ladies! I'm off in a minute to get some clear glue from a different store (the one with the hair already on rings) and they have a salon attached so maybe they have the razor. You just take a razor, like the ones on handles??, and slide it down the sides of my extension hair, right?
I can just tell this is going to look WAY better than the guy I paid $400 to. I am going to look into better hair though before this comes out and probably those strips ya'all were talking about. They sound a whole lot nicer than liquid glue.

Oh ok, I read it as 1 layer of hair sandwiched between 2 wefts, rather than 1 weft sandwiched between 2 layers of hair (Sherrie's method), so I thought you were describing a different kind of sandwich method. Sorry x
Oh my goodness... I may have totally mis-read Sherri's method from the start! And all this time I thought it was two wefts sandwiching one section of your own hair! Oops... You're right Emily, I thought I was explaining Sherri's method but I misunderstood it I've never tried either method myself, I had just heard from Sherri that her method works great so I was trying to pass it along. Thanks for questioning it, I may never have known otherwise
