I really, desperately need some advice.
Five days ago my very drunk friend threw up all over my bedroom. Most of it was on the carpet but somehow some of it got in my hair.  I cannot get the smell of vomit out of my hair and it's making me ill.  I've washed it a few times, and that does not seem to be working.  I read that vinegar works so I sprayed my hair with a water+vinegar solution.  It seemed to work for a while but a few hours later the smell is back.  I am about to try the tomato juice solution from Seinfeld because I am out of ideas.  Any advice, anyone?  I can't deal with the smell, but I don't want to cut my hair - it took me 3 years to grow long.  Incidentally, I can't get the smell out of my carpet either, in case anyone has advice on that, even though I know that's not hair-related.
Please help!  I will be forever greatful!

Found this on the Internet:

It recommends baking soda.  Might work on hair as well.  Cutting it off sounds too drastic.  Good luck!

Well, I ended up throwing out my carpet.  But the smell is still in my hair.  I've tried vinegar, facial astringent and tomato juice and nothing works!  The tomato juice worked for like a day or two but whenever I wash my hair, the smell comes back.  It's been a week and a half, does anyone have any ideas?  I'm going to my hair salon tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do.

I'm sure if you wash it again and again with a strongly fragranced shampoo the smell will eventually go away...

It must be dreadful...!

Use a clarifying shampoo.  Lather up and let it sit for 5 minutes.  Then rinse ver well with warm water.  If needed, lather up again and let it sit for another 5 minutes.

Be sure to condition very well afterwards because clarifying shampoos are drying!

:)

I actually went to my regular hair salon last week and they did an intensive purifying treatment.  I guess they used some hardcore shampoo and conditioner and repeated it twice. now it smells normal again.  i could have kissed the shampoo boy!

thanks for all the great advice!

Glad that worked out! It would have been TERRIBLE to go around with hair smelling like vomit. You should have found out the name of that shampoo! If it works like that on bad smells, I'll bet it's great for normal smelling hair.
Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
