Biolage is awesome, goldwell and pureology- i send each cleint home with liters of shamp. and cond. makes a nice gift, along with some other goodies i put together.
Tangles, I'm using the biolage hydrating shampoo, and I think it has a little too much moisture for my natural hair, but seems nice for the extension hair. Do you have any recommendations for what I could use on the top of my head since my scalp is very oily and my hair is fine?

I found a non sulfate shampoo and conditioner in a salon called ABBA. I was on a mission to find a non sulfate line. It runs about $25 a piece for BIG bottles (liters). I caught a sale and got them for 2 for $26!
I really like them, and it was the ONLY non-sulfate products I could find.

Yeah, I know that Pureology is non-sulfate, but I couldnt find it in ANY of the salons here. I checked every salon in Northwest Ohio and every salon in Northeast Indiana! I had just installed my new Bohyme, and wanted to start out right with non-sulfate products and didnt want to wait to order online!
Im really liking this ABBA line. I did a search for it online and some of the same places that carry Pureology also carries the Abba products. Im using the nourishing products. The conditioner can also be used on skin too!
Those are all great acid-balanced ph shampoos that deserves all the rave. As a So.Cap. educator, I will say I am finally relieved that they've been able to launch the SoCap 4U line. It's absolutely fabulous and it's even great for your own hair. It's been known and used in Europe, but was slow to be introduced in the U.S.
My own testimonial is that last summer I had a set for length removed, got a great ISO body wave, then proceded to get hilites with Wella's Blondor and Magma, got another set of SoCap for more volume, and took off in the Jamaican sun & water all in one month. Thank the hair gods for this SoCap 4U line.
I used Pureology when I first started doing extensions, I have since found 2 sulfate free lines that I love , Sudz Fx and Enjoy. They are both awesome. I recommend them to all my clients extension or not.
The ingredient sodium lauryl sulfate or other derivatives of sulfate is the sudsing ingredient used in most shampoos. It is also known as a very drying ingredient. The more professional salon-sold shampoos now don't use this as it can effect color as well as condition.
Why you don't want shampoos with any kind of sulfate for extensions is that it can effect the bonds, especially if bonds are 100% keratin (same protein that your hair is made up of). SoCap4U shampoos and conditioners are chemically designed for your extensions. Their labs have done the research so that we don't have to. IF your extensionist is truly certified, they should not have a problem getting their hands on the right shampoo.

ABBA is non-sulfate? That's good to know. Club Salon, I am currently using Enjoy, too - it's good. I only got it cuz it's non sulfate and less expensive than Pureology, which is the bomb. But it's pricey and I go thru a lot of conditioner.
So Tangles, that Biolage Bodifying is good? Okay then, I'm gonna try it on the silky straight fine hair on the top of my head and keep using the heavier duty conditioning on the extension length.
Sherrie, WTF is going on there in Northern Ohio?! DOn't they know there are local bombshells in need of cutting edge hair care? They must think you're just naturally that gorgeous. At least here in CA, nobody believes that anymore!

Okay, I'm going to ask a dumb question. When I got my extensions, (GL), I was told by my stylist that I need to use sulfate-free shampoo. When I asked her what shampoos to stay away from, she told me that most shampoos these days are sulfate free. She also told me that if the shampoo smells like rotten eggs, it's got sulfate in it. Well, no shampoo smells like rotten eggs, so I figured that most shampoos would be okay. But in looking at everyones' post, I wonder if I'm using the wrong shampoos. I use good shampoos----Rusk, Pureology, Matrix/Biolage. I want to try some Graham Webb and Back To Basics, but don't know if I should or not. Could someone please tell me what I need to be looking for in sulfate free shampoo? Does the same apply to conditioner?

When I was looking for sulfate free shampoos, I found there are very FEW brands that are sulfate free. I started with Walmart and started picking up bottles and reading the ingredients...every one of them had sulfates. I went to salons, and picked up bottles and read ingredients and they all had sulfates too...usually the second ingredient in every list.
Out of every salon I went to, that carries all the name brand salon sold shampoos/conditioners I found ONE brand with zero sulfates. Unfortunately I didnt find the Pureology shampoo around here anywhere, but Im happy with the ABBA Nourishing shampoo so far.

sherrie215--I agree with you on how stupid the answer to my question about sulfate free shampoos was. I'm now realizing how little she does know about extensions and care of extensions! I went to Ulta today and looked at various shampoos. Almost every shampoo does have sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, or some other type of sulfate in it as the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th ingredient. I checked out the Abba line and it looks pretty good. There are a ton of places here in Denver that sell Pureology, so I can get my hands on that no problem. I've only used the Pureology Clarifying shampoo and the Hydrate Conditioner. I'll have to get some of the other types of shampoos and conditioners. I also saw some other shampoos that don't have sulfate in them. One is L'anza Color Line. It advertises 100% sulfate free. Is the line good? What about Tigi products? Goldwell? Euphora? Scruples? I know that Euphora is supposed to be good, but I noticed that it did have sulfate in it.
