Well, after bleaching my hair over the course of a few years I finally decided that I wanted to go a little closer to my natural hair color.  I decided to dye it a medium brown, and as most of you have already guessed, it came out practically black!  I hate it!  So now my question is, is it too early to attempt to lighten it?  Basically I dont want this color, so what do I have to do to get back to a more natural color?

How long ago did you dye it? I was so tempted to use colorfix on my hair because when I dyed it brown, it turned out black. Within a month it was a decent shade of brown. I would give it time to fade a bit. I know how you feel though. I was in tears! You can try to fade it with hot oil treatments, dishwashing liquid, clarifying shampoo...I tried all of those things but all they did was dry out my hair. After a couple of weeks, it just finally faded down to a much more natural color.

Well, I dyed it yesterday.  I hope you're right because the condition that my hair is in right now, I really can't afford to throw more chemicals in there.  I absolutely hate it! I don't even look like myself... I just wanted a natural brown...I hope it will at least fade to that.

Yes let it fade. It will, dont' worry. Most people who dye thier hair black and are blonde, usually see it fade in a while. It may feel like it's going to take FOREVER but just wait.  :)
Wash with claryfiying shampoo, like Neutrogena...

Prell shampoo works great and dish soap can get some of the color out, too.  When going darker from a bleached blonde, always choose a color two shades lighter than the color you want to be.  The bleached hair is very porous and will grab the darker color.  What I have always done is to slowly layer on the color one level at a time starting with a slightly darker blonde using gentle deposit only colors.  I took two weeks to go from a level 9 blonde to a level 5 brown.

I have used MALIBU 2000 Crystal Gel Treatment on my hair when the color was too dark. A colorist introduced it to me when my daughter's beauty school took me from a dark copper blonde to a burgandy brown.  It won't damage your hair, but will lift out any excess color.
